Duplicate Content and Squidoo and Hubpages

Unique content is always better, but I have used articles from article directories on both sites without any issues. As with any PLR, you are best off rewriting the content. By rewriting, I am not talking about spinning, but actually taking the content and going through the exercise of manually rewriting it yourself.

I agree, the more unique you make your articles the better. You will get
results with non-unique articles. Been there, done that. But unique is
the best way to go. Of course, if you want to build an empire for a niche,
unique works will take a lot more effort for anybody. You need a system
to help you with your VRE content. A GOOD article spinner can help there.

Yes, rewrite the article. This will mean that it is unique and your back links will stick. With Squidoo though, check that your lenses are not in WIP mode otherwise your links will be nofollow.

Tip: About a year ago I found a number of related articles for a specific keyword / niche. I chose a paragraph from each one and completely re-written them in my own words to make a brand new article. That one page now brings in between 400 - 800 unique visitors into the website each month. My point is rewrite the article, do your keyword research and include some decent search volume, low competition keywords in there along with related keywords. Make sure the article reads well. Upload to wherever... get a few links to it then forget about it.

Good tip Andy, I always take two hours to layout and write the original article but can rewrite it in 15 minutes. Ill bear that in mind for the future.

  Hubpages won't let you use dupe content...Squidoo doesn't care. I like to mix and match.
  
  I've had more success with weebly, knol, and wordpress.com than I have with squidoo or hubpages.

This is not strictly true.

There are numerous instances of duplicate content (on different sites) ranking well.

Having said that, original content is best.

The guy said that duplicate content was 'useless'. I pointed to a search where every page is duplicate content and plastered with advertising. Search for any song lyrics and you'll see the same thing. It's my favorite way of pointing out just how lame it is to worry about 'duplicate content'.

Yes, that is really very true. Unique Articles are still the excellent choice, however if you rewrite an article from hubpages or squidoo make sure not to go around the bush or else you will just end up messing the article and your losing the whole point of the article.

You won't get duplicate content past Hubs, if it already exists online they will just flag your hub.

Re-writing is always the way and it doesn't really take that long once you sit down to get it done.

Agree with other posters, I don't think there is any way of tracking duplicate content on Squidoo, I don't they're as particular as ezine articles, but it doesn't hurt to tweak your article content a little to ensure that it is a little different to your article content on other sites. If you continually book mark your content with say, social marker.com, you can generate a heap of targeted traffic from your squidoo page for sure. I always add all of my content to squidoo on the chance that vistors will be directed there instead of an artcle directory site. Great thread!

I have been using the networking profiles at Squidoo and hubpages from quite some time but, never enountered any problem.

There shouldn't be any problem as far as there is no negative rating given by any other visitor.

ive heard about article spinning everywhere but don't know what it is.
is it a software used to make articles unique. just by changing some words around?

Definitely unique is better. But PLR works well too. Not as stringent as Google either. Even on Google some marketers flourish with duplicate content. But if you have a large number of site a good article spinner would be great.

I would agree that your own unique content is always a better alternative, but I have submitted and used articles from existing article directories without any problems. If your using PLR content exclusively, you are always better off starting form scratch and rewriting the content. I always use the PLR as a guide for structure and then rewrite the entire source in my own words. A much easier way of generating new content in my opinion!

If anyone is going to use duplicate content or unchanged PLR then I would at least recommend adding to it, or write some content that will lead into this article. Maybe refer to the article. The more unique content you add to any page, the better your chances of ranking and keeping the page in Googles main index.

I have been working on squidoo from a very long time. They have a very systematic approach to differentiate between quality and crappy content. If you just throw the copied content it will die before becoming alive because a lens is only beneficial when it is featured and you have to fulfill some conditions if you want to make your lens feature which you can't through copy content. Use original articles for marketing on squidoo it can be very beneficial specially if you are selling something on ebay and amazon

Hubpages may ban your article. They are strict about duplicate content. You should not use the same content in both Hubpages and squido. Use different or rewrite it.

If the big G indexes your Squidoo page before your website, it would definitely think that you have duplicate/copied content on your website, even though it is yours.

Hubpages are quite strict on issue of duplicate content. They have there system and if they find your content as copied or duplicate, they will remove it and also chances are their that they will ban your account. Squidoo lenses doesn't care for these things.

I would use unique content. Both have strict systems that will catch and remove duplicate content. If the content exists in cyberspace it will be found and marked duplicate. Why invest in a lens or hub, market it, and then have it removed?

Furthermore Google has their duplicate content penalty so even taking content from your website as only 1 source of duplication may not be good for SERPs. Even if indexed first in Google, they don't guarantee it will appear first. I generally rewrite everything I syndicate or distribute from scratch even content for topics that I want published on a website I run or own.

Some people find PLR content good to model or to use as a base for writing their own (mainly for idea generation).

  Just for laughs, on that fiverr copycat site, I copied some text
  from an offer....sure enough...same offer appears word for
  word on other "gig" sites.
  
  You should not allow people to post the same ad that they post

  Google will penalize sites under certain circumstances for duplicate content in abusive or malicious cases but I was making reference to users being negatively impacted in SERPs specifically where if many sites have the same content Google will attempt to identify the author or originator of the content and display the one it believes to be the source. I read a couple interesting articles about how it is not guaranteed that even though your unique content is indexed first on your own website that you will be returned in the rankings or appear first. Their attempt is to weed out duplicate content from coming up in Search results for users. Makes sense, noble cause, right?
  
  I came across this post because I was doing some research on content syndication and thought I would toss in my 2 cents. I believe original authors of content should be able to write an article, index it on their website and then syndicate it without penalty (negative impact in SERPs). Even though you can take steps its not guaranteed that an article directory or source you syndicate content to won't appear first or even in place of your article. Based on what I've read.
