Need Advice about Aging Domains

I need a little help here. First of all, I am not sure exactly what an aged domain is:

1. a domain that has been purchased but never developed in anyway.

2. a domain that has had content and/or links at some point in time.

Why do I ask?

I have domains that I purchased that I never developed. I don't foresee developing them anytime in the near future. They are up for renewal and I want to dump them.

I don't think they would have much value on the open market because some are attempts to get exact match by adding on. Like leelovescats.com. If I did not renew this domain, the odds are pretty good I could repurchase it sometime in the future if I really wanted it.

Another type example would be plussizenurses.

So the only reason I might have to renew them is that they are a couple of years old. But I don't think it matters.

Opinions/Facts?

I love buying aged domains Search engines have more trust in these domains and will be easier to rank and faster to rank. If it has a DMOZ listing already your golden.

An aged domain is a site that has old content and old backlinks pointing to it, it's as simple as that.

A domain regged 5 years ago with zero content and zero backlinks is not aged, as there is nothing to age.

That is what I suspected but I wasn't 100% sure. Thank you. You just saved me a few bucks this month.

The definition of an 'aged domain' is a little woolly, but most people use it to mean a domain that has been registered and indexed more than X years ago, where 'X' is whatever age you like to consider aged.

      Yep, pretty much.

Isn't that always the case with SEO, the fact is nobody outside of a select few know the Google algo.

Choose someone to believe and then run with it.

My opinion is, if it has aged backlinks and appears to have provable trust with Google, then its a good candidate, just purely registered years ago = pointless SEO value.

      Just my 2c of course

So I decided to do some housecleaning including some sites that are in various states of development. Which brings me to another question...

If I have my domain pointed to my hostgator, do I have to remove that or will not renewing the domain be sufficient.

Likewise, if I have a redirect to Clickbank, do I need to delete anything or is not renewing sufficient?

    ^^^

Those really are serious questions. I might just be the dumbest person on the planet when it comes to this stuff. Usually I can 'self help' with Google but not this time. Thoughts anyone?
