.ORG VS .NET For a niche site?

I have recently purchased both the .net and .org domains for my first niche site. It is for the audio book of a very popular teen trilogy that has been made into a movie that releases later this year.

I plan on using adsense and maybe some aff links to monetize the site.

I am hoping to catch the next Potter or Twilight but I am not sure which of the domains I need to use or if it even matters. I think that .org is seen as .com's little weakling brother but I wanted the opinions of the WF before I made my move.

Thanks for your time.

.org .net .com all rank the same. Just stay away from .info hehe

Oh, ok cool. I didnt know if there was some hierarchy of ranking. Here is another question then. seeing that I have 2 of the 3 best for this audiobook, should I make two sites that are the same or different. Try to get them to number 1 and number 2 or just have a redirect for the other?

Yea this sounds about right. I use both, but obviously would ideally have .com.

Why would you avoid .info? I have .info sites rank just as good as .com/.net/.org.

There is nothing wrong with .info the .info haters likely can't rank .com

I've heard this debate many times but I always think that the org gives some people the impression you're not trying to sell them someone, which helps sometimes :-)
Lol, I have never seen anyone talk about which is better but I thought the same thing you did. Plus there are more big .org sites than .net that just come to mind (craigslist for example). Just in case someone wants to come back that is.

Luckly I already have both. I did not think about the squeeze page idea but I decided I did not want anyone else with a 100% density URL to worry about.

      Thanks for the help.

I usually prefer .org if the .com is not available but in all fairness I have seen no difference they all rank the same in my opinion.

Both are good, but I prefer .net. I think it sounds better...

Unless you are a company like a carpet cleaning like ralphscarpetcleaning.org makes more sense.

    Boils down to personal preference.

Domain extensions have nothing to do with rankings unless it's a country code domain. For example, .us will definitely not rank well in the UK. because it's country code domain is for the United States. That's the only thing that extensions in domains matter. But all in all, when it comes to SERP ranking, .com, .info, .org, have the same value.

People say that .info will not do good in SERP. Just because many people don't use these kind of extension doesn't really mean that they will not rank good in SERP.

So choose whatever extension you want. It will all comes down on how you will work for your site.

You can rank well with either a .org or a .net (and even a .info if the content is good....I've ranked with a few of them). But I've found the .org to be SLIGHTLY easier to rank with, when it's an EMD. If it's not an EMD, then there doesn't seem to be any difference in how easily something ranks. In my experience, and I'm only speaking for myself, an EMD does make a difference in ranking a website quickly.

Do you think that has something to do with the algorithm or something to do with people (non-affiliated) feeling more comfortable linking to a .org site and not a .net on their website?

Seems that there is a huge difference of opinion on the .info VS the other domains.

Anyone mind weighing in on this question. Since I have both .net and .org, should I make two different sites and try to catch 1 & 2 spots or is there some type of unseen problem that could cause?

Thanks for the note here. There are a lot of differing opinions on this. Could you note the niche that you ranked a .info site?

Success depends on proper optimization of your page. Create a good landing page and optimize your content properly. Do proper off page optimization. All .com, .org, .net, etc. domains works same. Do not worry about domain extension. Just stay away from .info domains, because it requires more work to rank.

Haven't heard anything about .info domains being harder to rank. I purchased an ebook a while back that noted that .info sites tend to be virus sites -- is there any truth to this?
