Document sharing websites - Useless for SEO

I just received an email about gaining backlinks from document sharing sites, and my mind clicked.

I use to create the article, put a link in it, was then told to social bookmark it to get it index. The url did get index. That was April 2009.

Document sharing sites are useless for SEO especially if its anything like scribd. Good for promotion on scribd but there is no SEO value.

Here is one article I created in 2009:

Perhaps it's not good for SEO but it may be good for traffic. Do you use google analytics or tracking software. Did you see any traffic from this source?

I think that might be the real value, also if your documents on scribd are shared then your site will get wider traffic and recognition.

Document sharing is one of the off page optimization techniques through which we build backlinks for your website. We can place our site link in the word document or pdf or power point slides.

Just pick out the best document sharing websites like Google, scribd with high page rank sites and do document sharing. It really helps in ranking as well as bringing traffic to your website.

    Thanks

I'm not getting that many clicks/views to my various mini-travel-guides (Typically 200 - 1,000 views per document on Scribd and Slideshare and far less than that on Issuu and Yudu...) and, therefore, don't see any money from the aff-links I have placed in those mini-travel-guides...

I wish I knew how to drive more traffic to those documents...

Document sharing would only drive traffic to our website but would not work from SEO prospective. Specially sharing the document in famous websites like scribd and docstoc.

Actually mate, Document sharing sites have a profile link and they still help sites rank.

I have about 50 emd sites ranking from this method and they didn't drop after Panda or Penguin because they have unique content and they are only 1 page big.

I think they can be a useful tool, especially if you are working on a brand or reputation management campaign. Just because it is not a followed link does not mean it is worthless. I have used these to recycle offline content that are not text heavy enough for my money sites. Power points are great example.
