There are many topics/statements that are what I call "A Given"

Broadband is better than dial up.
The money is in the list
Make your own product to make really big bucks

But in my experience I cannot prove that wordpress is better for SEO. Surely if you understand SEO then any website you build will be "Better for SEO". I have many wordpress sites and a few html coded websites. They all seem to work fine and get targetted visitors. How and why is wordpress better for SEO?

Much of the on-page SEO is taken care of when using a decent theme and CMS. Wordpress is easier to setup compared to hand-coding an seo-optimized site, so for folks folks that don't want to pay for a custom design/hire a programmer with expertise in SEO but still want decent on-page seo optimization WordPress is often a good balance between performance and price point.

    1. Google still likes blogs -even attached to a relatively static domain - and constantly updating content, depending of course on the type of site.

    2. Wordpress can be pretty well tuned for SEO without knowing HTML; there are great plugins to help support SEO best practices, and templates are easily upgraded.

That isn't to say that Silverstripe, Drupal, or some other software package or framework is not as good. Personally, I like handcoding and when time allows prefer custom templates on a CodeIgniter framework. But for the typical solo shop, Wordpress gives the best bang for the buck for non-technical users. When used with the right templates - I've been adapting some for HTML5 and automatic microformats - it is as good as it gets technically. But please, use Yoast SEO lol!

Many people insist that WordPress is best for SEO because it is very easy to use. Like pbarnhart said, even without knowing HTML, you can manage to make a decent site through wordpress.

But IMO, that's the only thing that matters. If you look at the other site (or blogging platforms or CMS) and look at the bird's view, all are capable of being the best in SEO. They all have the same attributes in general, you can do coding, you can monetize your site using their own options, etc.Though there are Different ways on how to manage them, but they all the same in the sense that you can produce a website using them.

So I think wordpress is very popular nowadays because you can easily make a site hassle-free than other platforms could offer. But as far as SEO is concern in general, all have the same capability. It will all comes down on how you will work for it.

The question doesn't make any sense.

Why would WP be better for SEO than html, or vice versa?

In the end even Wordpress is plain HTML.

Actually if you know the secrets of wordpress there are tons of advantages. One of the biggest ones is that wordpress cms auto pings each post automatically which is basically calling on the search engine spiders to come and index your new content. You can also use a site like pingomatic but normally by the time you get there your new post has already sent out a call ping. In the normal php, html, coding world you would put in the revists time in your meta tags to tell the search engine spiders when you come back and check for new content .. ie "revisit" your site.

We have hundreds of sites and almost all of them now have blogs and some of them we have are established 3 years or more and we can literally submit a post, go to google immediately, and our post is listed in google and other search engines almost instantly. It is pretty impressive.

Of course your blog has to be setup correctly and seo'd properly, but in general, yes, wordpress is superior in my professional oponion.

All in all, the seo part of your question still depends on backlinking, pagerank, traffic, age, ect.. for proper seo., but yes Id go with wp.

The #1 reason why Wordpress is better for SEO is because almost all SEO Tools target Wordpress exclusively.

I am talking about the hundreds of Plugins that do this and that and whatever. Try to get that functionality for your hand coded HTML site without coding everything yourself.

Wordpress, in and by itself, is not better for SEO. Any type of site/coding can make a good site, it's all in the structure. You can structure any format to be be highly SEOd.

The reason people refer to Wordpress as being great for SEO is that it helps structure all the needed requirements easily and with minimal tweaking. Even a fresh install corrects/optimizes a lot of the common errors that other 'site builder' miss. And with a few tweaks/plugins, it is all the better.

You can accomplish the end result with any format, but WP just gets you there faster.

As said before WordPress generates html. However WordPress does make some parts of your SEO automated and creates multiple pages per post so it is nice for laziness. Really though it is just a semi decent php platform with many plugin capabilities.

The main advantage of WP is the fast indexing capabilities and pingback tool. But for me, a non-CMS website is better than a CMS powered.

For me, the best blog out there is Blogger; if you want to be asap on google blogger is the way to beat the others.
I think that ppl go for WP because you can make it look the way you want, there's no end to what you can make it looks like.
