Why would they want to do it? Most likely for the link. So, if this the only SEO activity that you do, you'll likely to lose ranking as a result, not gain it.

Whatever you do, don't add you website to blog networks like Free Traffic System, SEO Link Vine, etc. They will suck you PR dry.

      Thanks myt!
But my SERP is stuck and someone suggested to add more posts as it would help getting my SERP better. I can't post too many entries myself. Thats why I thought that. Shouldn't I add more entries myself?

I have actually been experimenting with allowing guest bloggers to post complimentary, but not directly competitive posts, and so far the result is a slow but steady rise in the site's visibility. In fact, I've seen one site that was on page 5 rebound to page 1 & 2 for the keywords I targeted with the domain name, and this is with absolutely no backlinking on my part. (That's another experiment - not creating any backlinks for some sites, just allowing them to accrue naturally)

If you decide to allow guest posts, however, be sure to lay out a fairly strict set of guidelines for guest bloggers. You don't want spam/poorly spun articles just stuffed with a link.

      Thanks mate.
Can you help me with guidelines and what are the thing that I should be careful about?

I always write a page with guidelines... minimum number of words, must be proper english grammar, must be complimentary but not competitive content, and that I have the right to refuse publication based on quality. I only allow two links within the content and author section. No links to spammy content, adult content, etc. - allowing myself plenty of room to reject articles that don't work for my sites.

Can we give links from every additional post to our sticky post or main page? I heard that google penalizes that.

Allowing guest post gives your site fresh (and probably quality) content.
Now if the post is good, there is fair chance that it will rank (although many other factors count).
    Fresh content is always good.

I had someone email me offering to guest post for my blog but their site was about poker so I was afraid it would have a negative effect on my PR. If you try guest blogging, make sure you link out only to good sites.

Only allowing guests to post in your site will never increase your website's ranking. For getting higher rank you must get quality backlinks from other places. But for other reason you can ask your visitors to post. But the posts must be unique and informative. The content should well matched with the type of website you have.
