Is there any hope? Paid for article submissions in horrible categories...

So about 5-6months ago I paid someone to submit to a bunch of article sites for my site. Unfortunately, they are in HORRIBLY inaccurate categories. For example, if my category was about cooking, I have articles in automotive repair... is this hurting my rankings? I can imagine that google is seeing a bunch of cooking articles in the wrong category as "spam". It may be like this for hundreds of links

    No matter what category you submit them to they will still count as a backlink. If the articles have quality content they should be fine.

    What you should worry about is how unique each submission is. I make sure every article I submit is 60% unique from the others.
