Best way (SEO wise) to hide lots of text that experienced users might not want to see?

I am creating a site where I will have instructions for doing various things on the Internet.

For example, I might have instructions for how to install WordPress using Fantastico.

My goal for each page of this site is two fold. To give advanced users very brief instructions that will allow them to quickly do what the instructions say to do and less experienced users a lot more details for each step of the instructions.

Admittedly experienced users don't need instructions on how to install WordPress with Fantastico much less on how to install WordPress but humor me...that's just an example.

Anyway...I can create two pages of instructions. One, very simple and brief. Another very thorough and comprehensive.

And allow visitors to click through to one or the other through regular links.

Or I can use hidden text and using Javascript allow users to expand or collapse the more detailed instructions as they might desire.

Ideally I want to do the second as keeping instructions up to date and relevant on two different pages will be more work and less user friendly than allowing users to simply click for more details at any point of the instructions and to hide the details to continue with the simplified instructions at any time.

But...hidden text is frowned upon by Google and other search engines.

What is the best way to accomplish what I want SEO wise?

I was thinking of putting the detailed instructions into keyed HTML comments (search engines ignore comments) and then, in response to user clicks on links, to have Javascript turn those comments into non-comments which would then display.

Only problem with that approach is that the search engines will never index the rich detailed content at all - which I also don't want.

Anybody got any ideas on this?

Should I just give up on making pages the most user friendly through hidden text (alternating between lots of detail and not depending on user desire) and just stick to creating two separate pages?

Any input would be appreciated.

What I decide will be used on potentially hundreds of pages so I need to decide on a good course of action now...before I get too far with this site.
