Can google penalize you for certain keywords?

Is it possible that Google penalizes a website for certain keywords only? I am wondering if any of the warriors here have experienced such an effect before. Also, when a website keeps appearing and disappearing from Google results what does that mean?

    Yes, Google can and does penalise for single keywords, however what you interpret as a penalty is open to debate. What you're describing is something many websites go through, wait a few weeks or even months and it will stabilise - probably.

    I haven't experienced this sort of penalty in my entire life, although, Google may penalize for over optimization or for implementing or executing any black hat SEO techniques. But again, I am not certain that Google will penalize only for certain keyword.

    This is termed a Google Dancing which happens due to change some in algorithm or Google servers.

      Off course Google can penalize website for certain keyword if you spam by that keyword

    No. this is not the reason for which Google penalize the keywords. The keyword stuffing can cause it.

      It is Google dance for sure and you may see that happen to your site quite a few times every now and then. Just keep on building stable and high PR backlinks and you will have it at nice ranking.

    its not the keywords but certain sites that got penalized, because of the 'unusual' activities such as black hat SEO that mentioned above

    The ways you use is not correct, google will penalize you.
    A website appears and disappears, I think these have something to do with SEO. I think you got it.
