One of my backlinks outranked my site? Normal?

So one of my keywords that generates 1,600 a month is on page 3.

I noticed that one of my web 2.0 sites that I used as a backlink to that same keyword outranked it (top of page 2!)

Is this normal? I thought it was supposed to help boost my actual site haha.

The web 2.0 site is posterous that was a 2nd layer that had an anchor text to another web 2.0 site that had another anchor text to my main site (which is the on page 3).

And the actual site that I'm trying to rank had a mixture of web 2.0 sites as a backlink, along with BMR, UAW, and blog commenting..(more the effort)

Hmm? Any ideas?

Yes it is normal, and hopefully temporary.

this happens for a few reasons:

    - Your site has little authority
    - It is a new site
    - You are going through the Google dance.
    - Rare but possible, your site got penalized.

As your site ages it will gain more authority and should rank above all your 2nd tier links.

    Cheers.
