If you want to run a blog then Wordpress is the best option. Joomla could be the second alternative for website or blog. If you want to create a shopping website, then Magento is the good option, and it is also a search engine friendly.

According to me wordpress is the best. WordPress is built for blogging. Whether you have a separate industry blog or a small page based site , It has all the CMS features you want. It gives extra functionalities for the peoples who are not very capable with coding and also in techniques. If you have own blog that needs additional pages, Then WordPress is the great solution of it. You can simply run the web page content with WordPress CMS.

If wordpress is so great, why is this forum filled with
"How do I..." "I can't...." "Help...." from wordpress
      people?

If you are doing a blog, nothing, and I mean nothing
comes SEO'd out of the box, exactly the way google
wants it, like blogspot. No plugins needed. Everything
done and done. You can put adsense ANYWHERE.
You can even get a custom domain. They have
a plethora of widgets to just paste in. Free.
      Done and done.

And if you just want to build a site, why would you
even consider wordpress? I can never figure that one
out. Why would I choose something that supposedly is
easy, then have to spend time finding the right plugins,
tweaking the settings, asking for help here, etc? Crazy.

There are much, much better CMS than wordpress.
Free. You could even buy a site from your host that
      is ready made.

The thing is, people think WP plugins will save them from having to learn html or php.

Then you have a lot of members here on this forum that swear up & down you can't have a blogspot blog, it has to be WP, you have to own the hosting, etc...

I personally like WP, but then again I enjoy coding, but to be honest, one of my blogspots is also one of my best earners & has been for years.

The way I look at blogspot is, blogspot + Adsense = 100% FREE money.

You already pointed out some facts. Just wanted to add few more reasons why folks as well as experts are going for wordpress more than any other CMS.

WP is much easy to learn than most other CMS. Such as drupal. Not really very easy to understand even though drupal is extremely SEO friendly platform and a drupal based website really looks Aesthetic. However there is a myth WP is the easiest CMS to learn. I must say WP is easy but not easiest one. I see blogspot is less complicated than WP to learn.

WP is one of the most discussed CMS within netizen. Probable most discussed one. So most of us started with WP. Thus we are familiar with WP than any other CMS. Most of the guys dont have enough energy or time to spend behind trying more than one CMS.

Most seo software/plugin preferring wordpress to provide SEO supports. How many blackhat software or plugin you see available for Square Space? I think this is the main reason why people goes for WP rather than other CMS. So if anyone own WP website he/she will be able to use lots of different services comparably other CMS.

There is a myth in market WP is the best CMS for SEO and IM. Completely rubbish! Paul has elaborated a lot with example.

Actually, the out of the box version of WordPress is not SEO-friendly at all. It has that stupid date-based URL system, no basic META tags, it gives uploaded images a long date-based path. Some aspects depend on the developer of the chosen theme.

With Drupal or Joomla the need to learn HTML or PHP is no greater (and no smaller). They have WYSIWYG editors as well, plugins (modules) that you can install very easily etc, but to be certain what you are doing and how the page looks like at the source side, you must know the basic syntax, you must be able to check your META tags, image ALT tags and so on. What about linkbuilding if you even don't know the elements of the link tag? You should be able to check for "nofollow", either before commenting in other's blogs or checking if your own links are with or without it. How would you enter your link with right anchor text if all you can do is copy-paste from the address bar?! You absolutely need to know SOME HTML! Even with WordPress.

EDIT: And then there is that rumor that Google, because of all these billions of spam sites is frowning upon WordPress. With so few really important quality sites in WordPress and so much spam, I really wouldn't risk doing my sites in WordPress. A basic Drupal site is also quite easy to set up, I think most of the WordPress people would manage very well.

Wordpress is a little more user friendly to users new to IM. Joomla is a little more clunky of a CMS, yet it is very stable platform and I use both. There are large scale sites deployed across wp, joomla, drupal. If you are looking for something basic for seo purposes, stick with wp and do research on wp plugins that help with seo.

WP or Joomla or Drupal all require plug-ins to adjust elements that are NOT seo-friendly, this is the only reason why all of these plug-ins have been built.

On the other hand you should consider SEOTOASTER - it's way easier to use with in-line editing and it has advanced SEO built-in including automated deep-links, 301 redirect, cannonalization, and JS based silos & link sculpting.

Finally, I'd like the person who stated "Google loves WP" to realize how silly of a comment that is. Google does not "love". WP pings new content out like other blogging platform, which helps get content indexed faster, but that's about it. And as I said, this is done by all blogging platform.

Using CMS and traditional html are both okay for me but I prefer using CMS because of the advantages, its easier to add contents and also for example the wordpress cms has alot of powerful Search Engine Optimization plugins wherein you can optimize each pages and at the same time it also has its own ping service. If you're good coder you can also control your theme or template. On the other hand, traditional html gives you total control and some websites (static) don't need CMS to rank well.

CMS concept wasn't develop to provide platform for dynamic sites only. These CMSs are providing supports for Content Management easily. Hassle free web developing and to release you from doing same job again and again. No matter whether these are static or dynamic.

I like wordpress using the plugin SEOpressor and the themes I use most are ithemes Builder platform because you can create any layout you want. Most of my sites are for local businesses who want a regular looking website with a blog page so they can have a few articles for SEO purposes.

I am learning how to use Joomla though, as I know several people swear by it's ease of use and speed when putting a site together. It's still a learning curve for me though.
