Adwords Content Network HELP!!

Hi Warriors,

I'm really frustrated with Google AdWords / Content Network.

Ok here is my situation. I currently use AdWords and have for quite some time with fairly good statistics. I'm trying to move into the Content arena and am totally frustrated.

My Adwords search CTR is at 4.17% which is pretty good. I keep everything very tight and relative and my clicks are VERY cheap.

However when I tried to move over to just doing the Content Network I can't get my ads shown for less than what I'm paying for the Content Network.

From my understanding your supposed to get clicks from the Content Network for .15-.25 cents but my ads wont show up for less than .57.

Thats more than I pay for the search network. I'm totally lost here and have read and watched hours of information on how to set this up. It has recently been brought to my attention that I should set up a separate account for the Content Network only.

Does anyone know this to be true or can anyone help me here?

Thanks,
Shawn

    Hi,

I don't think it's necessary. The CTR on the google content network is always worse than the one on the search network but this does not affect your search network quality score.

If you feel better, use AdWords Editor and copy that campaign but make it running just in the content. This way, you have 2 equal campaigns, but one runs in the search and the other in the content. You should have more control on them.

    Good luck

Thanks for the tip....but been there done that. I'm sooo over the top right now I could scream.

I mean this is ridiculous. I'm not retarded and I sure feel that way. A buddy of mine that lives down the street has tapped into this "GoldMine" with the content network and showed me what to do and how to do it but I can't get any freaking ads to post.

I mean he's making a small fortune on a $20 product thats only costing him $3 to sell. This past week he sold over 50. I know this for a fact because he's one of my best friends.

Can you see why I'm so excited? I mean he made $850 in one week setting up 5 campaigns and I can't get one to stick for less than .57.

      UGGGGGGGGGGGG

Thanks for your suggestion though. I really do appreciate it!!

use placement targeting on social networks, and other hign traffic sites. look for high traffic sites in your NICHE. so you target them and get value for your cash.

Can you go broader and get cheaper clicks to start with, then narrow in on your real market? I've seen some AdWords guys recommend starting with campaigns OUTSIDE the US to kick-start the campaign, then inverting the target later on.

Never tried it, but might be worth a shot if you're still stuck.

        Hey Warriors,

Thank you for all your help here. I finally solved the problem. the solution was to sign up for a new Ad Words campaign all together.

Once I got approved for a brand new adwords campaign the content network is working like it should.

I hope this helps someone in the future.

        Thanks You Again,
        Shawn

I was going to say Shawn...

Start up a new Ad campaign (in the same account) just for the content network, and switch the search / partner network off.

Head over to the sites in question you want to advertise on, and try and find the related keywords for that site that match your product, then do a thorough keyword research.

    Works for me.

      Hi Loz,

I did that...like 3 million times. finally I talked to a buddy who had the same problem some time ago and the only resolution he had was to start a whole new ad words account.

      It works for me..I'm happy.

Thanks for the input though...appreciate it!!

Ugh. Did they bother to tell you what part of the TOS you'd violated?

        Probably this one:
Can I have multiple AdWords accounts? - AdWords Help

Can I have multiple AdWords accounts?

No. In order to preserve the quality and diversity of ads running on Google, individuals advertising for themselves or for their own businesses may only have a single AdWords account unless explicitly advised otherwise by Google.

This means that we don't allow advertisers or affiliates to have any of the following:

        * Ads across multiple accounts for the same or similar businesses
        * Ads across multiple accounts triggered by the same or similar keywords

Only client managers (such as third parties or search engine marketers) who use a My Client Center can have multiple AdWords accounts. All associated accounts must be linked to the manager's My Client Center account.
        Regards, Georgetta

No they didn't tell me anything. I was advertising two separate niches triggering different keywords.

chance would be a fine thing...lol

Not straight away, no... I had to call the office again and demand to speak to someone higher up cos it was doing my bloody head in...

I told them... "Look, if you treat a $30-60K a month advertiser like this, I hate to think what you treat a person like you don't like..."

When I told them my other account details, they were like... "Oh... ok Mr Lawn, I see that you have two accounts, this is not allowed without express permission..."

So I was like, ok, can I have two accounts... they said no... GGGrrrhhh.... I asked why and they said that my other account is still within its limits and once I reached it, I could ask for a extension of sorts that allows me to have more campaigns...

This made me really confused how I see many others having more than one account.

Then some weeks later, i spoke to someone else, again, asking for permission to have a new account, surely enough, no problems.

So I guess it all depends on who you ask... I noticed and read a lot that Google staff are sometimes left to give answers and permissions at their own discretion.

Bleh. Were both accounts managed under one MCC, or were they totally separate? I have only one account myself, and a bunch of client accounts managed under my MCC. I'm thinking of setting up a 2nd account, but have been nervous about exactly this scenario.

IF you have it set up like that, then it's ok to set up client accounts within the same account... From what I heard (not that I have tried it myself), the account history is set to zero again. Whether that's true or not, I'm not sure.

Any ways, I'm referring to setting up two adwords accounts, actually signing up again - without them being linked.

    Hey Shawn,

Since you got your account working to use Placement Targeting is it making you some good money like your friend down the street?

I'd like to do placement targeting as well and have a grasp of the concept after reading some e-books on it, but no one ever mentions tracking. Do you and your friend use some sort of tracking system with your campaigns so you can weed out the losers and make your campaigns lean and mean? If so can you tell me what you use to do this?

    Thanks,

    Stephen
