A caution for those using the Google traffic estimator tool

I have been targeting a keyword phrase with 27,000 exacts/month and just recently got into the top 10. Glory to me, I thought, this should be worth heaps of traffic. I followed my clickthrough rate on Google Webmaster Tools and saw that it was appallingly low, lower than 1%. I couldn't figure out why because I thought my site description was exciting. Then I discovered that my keyword phrase actually means two things, one of which would never lead people to my site!

Imagine you ranked in the top 10 for "dog training" and got hardly any traffic, only to find that there was a movie called "Dog Training" (that has nothing to do with actual dog training) that was responsible for the high search traffic for that term.

This is like what happened to me! So pay attention to possible multiple meanings for your search phrase, your actual expected traffic might be much lower!

Regardless of your issue with a conflicting meaning associated with your keyword, if you are ranking outside of the top 3, 1% CTR is really not that far off from what you can expect.

LOL, sorry to laugh but I think it is time to change your content to match the meaning that everyone is searching for... Then try to push it up to at least the top 5 if possible and see what happens.

To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true.
