SEO Help with targetting keywords and domain name

Hi,

I have decided to take an ambitious route and try to build an authority site in the golf niche. I know it may sound crazy to try and attack this area but I know its a buyers market and I love golf and know an AWFUL lot about it and how to develop your game etc. I also have a good few ideas for branding the site and feel it will really work.

However, I have no technical skill whatsoever, just a passion and skill for writing and business marketing. I have produced around 20k words (nowhere near enough I know) of content so far and will be looking for a freelance wed designer/developer in the coming weeks. One question though; how do I target keywords? I have written for the customer rather than seo and I'm not sure how to rank for keywords. Can I have just one page of content to target a keyword or do I need multiple? For example, if I write one page on golf grip tips will I be able to target that keyword or would I need 10 pages on golf grip tips? If it is the former, what steps/process do I then need to follow to climb the rankings for that keyword?

Also, in relation to the domain name I have read a lot of info about exact domain name matches to rank in better in the search engines. However, this site is going to be large and target a number of areas and I have chosen a name for branding and to create an image with the customer rather than a boring domain. Is this ok or will it not work?

Any advice/info you feel will be useul will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

G

A exact match domain name will help you with seo but its not essiential.

What makes you think 20k worth of words is not enough?

You can target keywords by looking at the search volume and the competition for that keyword. Mention your keywords in your artilces.

Ranking for keywords just boils down to building backlinks, find reletive websites and post articles or comments with your keyword linking back to your site.

I know some very successful IMers who never write for Google and only for people.

As for targeting keywords, yes you can do it with only one page and then promote that page. It may help to add and update some content along the way. Google loves fresh, quality, relevant content with high quality relevant backlinks added on a gradual basis.

    Hope this helps.

Oliver cheers for the reply, when you say about adding and updating content along the way im not too sure what you mean.

Do you mean if I write an article on the golf grip that I should update and change that article over time? Do you mean I should add a new article about the golf grip in a few weeks? Or do you just mean that I should be updating the website with new content regularly about golf in general?

If you could clarify that would be great.

      Cheers

      G

It's good to include something like a 'news' section or a blog that you can continuously add new content to - be it an article, golf news, golf tips/advice or just personal experience/views - if it's relevant and informative people will want to link to it too. It doesn't look good in Google's eyes if a site it just abandoned, keep it up to date! You could consider social media also if you know you can keep on top of it.

    Hi,

I appreciate your positive thoughts with your upcoming business plan and just would like to assure that you will succeed if you really have the passion for writing and Golf (sports) is one of your fond fields. Marketing, when it comes to business requires nothing more than passion and confidence which I could see in you along with a plus point of writing business marketing kinda content which will be very helpful. Try to focus on content based SEO/link building for getting faster recognition with indexing pages in the search engines especially the big G. Along with that social media market must be your second most preferred place of sharing and marketing for link popularity. Your complete plan though stated in brief seems big and so you need to work upon it carefully. Try to search for keywords in Google's Adwords Keyword Tool and pick 2-3 highly competitive keywords and 4-5 less competitive so that you could rank the less competitive soon in order to give a head start and earning.

Post a press release first for announcing your website's launch along with mentioning benefits and submit in top 20-30 PR sites. Post articles, blogs (all informative), join sports related and Golf related forums, help users there with their questions related to your site's niche, comment on blogs with similar niche. Share each of your published URLs in social medias and your geo market as well. Bookmark your site and published URLs as well and make sure to submit your site to several search engines. Since your site will be new it will take a bit of time to index and rank.

Exact domain name match works definitely faster than the one with no match but not that necessary to use. Try to get a domain with the golf mentioned in it. Remember quality and information is everything that will help you to lead the market.

Try to research and learn more before starting SEO in order any mistake as now Google is very strict. All the best!

It will be better to focus on few keywords only. Golf alone is too big. So you need find less competitive kws. And to use it as the main theme of our websites.

Inform me if you need further details.
