My brother has a website that I want to try and help him rank but it has no written content. It is a site where people can purchase digital downloads. If anyone has any advice -I would appreciate it!

It really depends on the specific niche and how much competition there is. But it is entirely possible to rank a site for a keyword and get traffic even if that site has only one page and one word on that entire page. Search for "something" on Google and you will what I mean.

Its not hard at all. Backlinks are basically all its about. Content just gives Google a way to categorize the page, but anchor text backlinks will take care of that in no time. Ive ranked many pages with little to no content. Ive also ranked pages for keywords that had absolutely no relation to content. Backlinks, backlinks, backlinks.

Start a blog section in the www.yourdomain.com/blog and write relevant content there. It is a not so hard to rank ecommerce shops but having a blog gives a lot of privileges and guarantee of long term ranking.

  • Nick,

Since your site has no content it would be difficult now to get good ranking as now Google is focused towards content in sites as much as possible. I must appreciate the idea by 'Kreative4' actually a good idea to generate traffic and ranking. Create a blog with the site's domain.

It seems blog promotion will help you to get what you want. I think it's better to have contents in that site, so it will become more easier to do promotion.

The site must have some content, otherwise how would people even know they could download something from it.

It is actually a site that he sells beats from and it has a flash player that does everything. The only written content it has is the instructions to use the player.

I think I will add a FAQ page and another page with some articles that are related just for SEO purposes.

      Thanks again guys!

I created a squeeze page with very little content that received 2k hits a day organic Google search. The key is onpage factors such as title, description, header, images, tags. You really only need a handful of content to feed the Google robot machine, but in my experience the more content on the page, the more LSI, or related keywords you will rank for - which of course is the goal.

Target your keywords in page title. Also try to build a blog with relevant content. Then build links. We know sites with zero content ranking for certain keywords with just these two things.

    Hi,

Yes ! You can rank a website that has no content.

The thing I would like to say is try to optimize the site for other on page factors like title tag, meta description, image optimization, URL optimization etc. So that it will helps you in ranking your site.

    Hope it helps you.

Even websites with less content can rank high. There are many website with digital downloads having good rankings. You have to be very very wise choosing keyword for your campaign. You may try with Keyword Country for a thorough and profitable keyword research.

You have to be very careful with your keyword tags. And, I would advise you to keep the description of downloads keyword rich.
