Keyword research metrics for a beginer

Hi guys - this is my first post so please forgive me if I do not address the question correctly (I have only been researching internet marketing for a couple of weeks and I'm enjoying the ride).

When running your keyword/phrase research I am keen to understand the metrics (and any advice on the key elements would be appreciated).

I do not want to use any paid tools at the moment to give me the 'green' light on keywords as I believe in understanding the fundamentals before I go to easier options.

From my understanding there is usually a system you would apply to gauge if the keyword is a worthy target, e.g Easy to rank, Medium to rank and Hard.

I am using SEO Quake to make things easier

You enter your keyword/phrase and you get the results - now what are the metrics based on these questions below and I am sure there are loads of other elements to be considered and these may not be the options I should be looking at, but as I said I am new

1). How many sites with the number of back-links to the Page over 200 on page one of google would you class as easy/medium/hard

2). The number of sites over PR3 on page one of google would you class as easy/medium/hard

3). Number of authority sites - this means with links to the root domain over 5k on page one of google would you class as easy/medium/hard

4). Number of sites with Title Tag containing keywords/phrase on page one of google would you class as easy/medium/hard

5). Number of sites with keyword in url structure on page one of google would you class as easy/medium/hard

This is kind of an break down of an algorithm used by some guys I have noticed and wanted to understand it.

I appreciate your help guys.
