Why is 'Mr Google' indexing my blog when I haven't invited him?

Hi guys,

I started building a site/blog (my first attempt) about 1 month ago and have been writing new posts everyday.

I have my own domain name and hosting and I am using a wordpress theme I found. My plan was to write about 30 to 40 articles spread over about 12 different categories before I start trying to get traffic to the site/blog.

I want the site/blog to have some substance and depth to it before anybody visits because I want people to return based on the fact that there is an abundance of good quality and frequently updated information.

However I typed my domain name into google and there are already about 8 articles/posts that have been indexed without me doing anything.

I have about 30 posts so far that I have written but the posts are not completely finished as I would like to do more seo on them i.e. insert keywords where necessary, insert affiliate links and outbound links to relevant information on a different site and to link my posts together under a title of RELATED POSTS (or something similar).

My questions are: Why would google be indexing my site when I haven't done anything to initiate it? What is the best way to launch a site/blog and how many posts do you think are necessary to make it look like your blog has some sort of substance to it?

Thanks

You don't ask Google, they come in and do it anyway.

I thought you needed to submit your site to Google or create some sort of backlinks so they can find you?

Is your privacy setting off? During installation wordpress' default setting is "on".

Get a good amount of content up. Generate backlinks in whatever way possible. Write lots of articles. Work on SEO. You can't launch anything unless you already have a following. If you don't, you need to work hard on making it noticeable.

Not necessary. Backlinks do help, but its not a thumb rule that you need to create backlinks to be noticed by Google. They will often index sites that do not have any backlinks at all. It depends on lot of factors.

Nope. I remember when it would take weeks to get indexed. Now, it can take just a few days in some cases.
