I am currently ranking in a high competition long tail keyword that I optimized my site for... How do I rank for a similar long tail keyword on the same page?

    As your is a long tail keyword go for backlinks related to content(article submission, guest post, Press release etc). It will helps you a lot.

        Do not update your content for the new keyword.

        Assume that you are doing article submission go for first long tail keyword in one article submission sites and submit the same article with the second long tail keyword in another article submission sites.

        You should always mix up your anchor text anyway when backlinking.

        As long as the new keyword is similar to the original and is relevant to the content it should be fine.

        I mix my anchor text up 60%/30%/10% and the 10% is always "this site" or "click here" or the actual url.
