Hi all, I started linkbuilding about a month ago now trying to rank high for my keyword. The persons site that is sat top of google for the main keyword I am targeting has around 1000 do-follow backlinks according to backlinkwatch.com(don't now how accurate that is) but all them 1000 backlinks come from only 14 sites. Around 600-700 of the backlinks come from 2 sites both of which he owns.

So my question is are them backlinks devalued in any way one because there from his own sites and two because of the sheer number of links coming from them.

If he is sitting at the number one spot then i doubt they are devalued or he wouldn't be there.

Yes good point but could it just be that no one else has build many backlinks it is not a massive niche so can't see to many people bothering to rank for it.

Yeah that could be it. If he is the only one going after it then he would be top.

This depends on their authority. If you get 100 backlinks from one website which has a VERY HIGH authority, this will be better than getting 1000 backlinks from 10 or more low authority websites
