How is a link pyramid different from a link wheel?

    Typically a link pyramid will have a number of pages pointing to your money site (varies but anywhere from 6 to 20 seems usual) and then hundreds or even thousands of links pointing to those pages. This is said to boost the importance of the second level pages and is also said to keep the (often spammy) third level links distanced from your money site.

    A link wheel is a number of pages pointing to your money site (again varies, but usually 6 - 12) but they also have another link pointing to the next site in the wheel. Some link wheels complete the circle others leave it "broken", the theory on this second option being that it's not as easy for Google to work out that it's not natural.

    The structure of Link Pyramid is made of 3 level structure:

    1) Base links.

    2) Mid-Grade Links.

    3) Highest-Quality links.

    In the base level, there are poor links, Mid links are links from web sites that have more authority than base links and highest quality links have high PR links with best quality in the comparison of base and mid links.

    A link pyramid are backlinks that are layered, in a diagram form they look like a pyramid.

    At the tip of the pyramid is the site you're looking to rank, then the layer below that is high pr links normally a fairly low amount, below 1000, then you have poor quality links normally PR0 that you link to the High PR backlinks, normally there are 1000s of these.

    This is effective because it gets the high PR backlinks indexed and it passes all the link juice from the rubbish no PR backlinks onto the high PR backlinks, making them even stronger.

    It also means you don't have 1000s of low quality links plus a few high quality ones. It's a low amount of high quality links that get indexed, this stops Google for slapping you and they're really effective for SEO.

    There are different ways to go about this link pyramid.
