Do you reckon i will eventually get penalized as a result? My typical layout is..

Homepage:
468x90 (adscend media)
728x90 (adsense)
728x15 (adsense link ad)
300x250 (adsense)
300x250 (adsense)
300x250 (adscend media)

Should i cut out all the adscend media ads since less then 5% of my income comes from there?

Cheers.

To be on safe side, you should use a maximum of 3 adsense blocks per page.

I dont think adsense do allow so many ads in a single page, you account will be banned sooner or later, better keep only 1-2 ads per page, keeping more ads your site will be penalized by Panda too

2 or 3 ads per page sounds a bit better.

Sounds like your running way to many ads.

As everyone else has said, the Adsense rule is no more than 3. You can put in ads from other networks, or affiliate ads if you want. The question though is how your readers react to all those ads. Usually they are distracting to the content on the page.

I'd cut down to 3. Then test out different sizes, designs and combinations to see how your click rate changes. Sounds like it may be worth focusing on your major sources of income instead. Could be that your ads are actually taking away from other potential income just because they are so distracting.

USE JUST 3 ADSENSE ADS! Google will decrease your rank if you add more than 3 adsense ads on your website

If it looks bad, then yes it's probably good idea to take it down.
You won't get penalized because of the number of ads, but if in relation to your content, the ads make it so that your site has poor user experience, then that will be why you are penalized.

There is no way more than 3 ad units, 3 link units, and
two search boxes will show up. Unless you are using
iframes or something. But that would be against TOS.

Trying to put more than that is a common mistake. It
does do a thing except not show more.

Why does everyone fall on their faces instead of reading?

That's what adsense is about, that's why google allows
      3 ad blocks
      3 link units
      2 search boxes

Get a grip on reality people.

If someone is not smart enough to know when all those
look bad, that's their problem. But looking bad is not
      against adsense TOS.

In fact, in your rss you have have as many ad units as
google will show. I've seen mine with 25+ ad units, one
after each post. Rss feeds fall under different rules.
So, what, I should tell google to only put one ad on
      my rss feed? Hardly.

Algorithm updates seldom have anything to do with adsense
      TOS.

Google NEVER said you can't stuff your site with ads.

Ever been to newyorktimes.com? Or similar sites?

      People just don't read.

        That's too much,

lessen it, 1 good ad placement is better than stuffing your whole site with ads

Yes only 2 or 3 adsense is a good choice for better results...

Thats quite a bit of ads and if you're going to use that many I would definitely keep the majority of them below the fold. But also think about user experience on a site with that many ads, that's annoying as hell and going to increase your bounce rate for sure

It will also make your pages look more cluttered, and turn off consumers

Of course 6 + Ads on one page are too many. I think one or two should be better.

    From google's website.

Our policies permit publishers to place the following number of ads on a webpage:

    - Up to three regular ad units

    - Up to three link units

    - Up to two search boxes

If you've placed more than the permitted number of ads on a webpage, ads will only show in the allowed number of ad units.

Yes way too much, cut down.. personally I'll NOT insert more than 2 ads..

1 ad can out beat 6 ads if you do it correctly..

It's not just that Google won't let you do it.

I think you shouldn't put too much ads on a webpage anyway, in some point the user will stop reacting to the ads. so anyway you are hurting your profits.
