Best practices for google - still getting slapped?

I want to undertake learning SEO the RIGHT way, I'm planning by learning it from Dan Thies. He seems to really know what he is talking about and seems to teach you who to do it properly

If you would follow all the best practices and provide some really good nice original content and do all the SEO stuff the proper way and don't buy backlinks but do it yourself so you know it's all done properly, can google STILL slap you and kick you off?

any thoughts on this?

    It still depends on the kind of backlinks you'll be building, but sincerly you should not be scared AT ALL.. Links don't have to be all manual though and depending on your competition it might take ages to get it ranked by manual linkbuilding so make sure you can rank first before investing your time, but to answer your initial question, you should not be scared of getting slapped really.

    lso, if you're looking at niche websites I'd highly suggest you to read adsenseflippers and nichepursuits as they are 2 awesome free alternative and it's always best to not listen to 1 single person, but that's my own opinion. If you need more specific and detailed informations, paid communities are probably the way to go, but really as long as you keep doing stuff and experimenting you're good to go, keep it up man!

    I agree - don't be too paranoid. You can still buy some backlinks and use some free services like socialmonkee just don't go crazy! Unless your backlinks are suddenly in the 1000's you'll be fine. Just find a nice slow drip feed to organically support each new page you create.
