Theory for new adsense website. What do you think?

So I was just looking over some keywords, and I want to run this by the forum. I have never built a website for adsense before, but I plan on doing so in the very near future. My previous experience is with clickbank and a little bit of Amazon.

Now, I write articles during the day. So, writing about random SEO stuff in my spare time would seriously drive me nuts. However, there is a hobby I am avid about, and in looking for keywords for my blog I started investigating these keywords to see what kind of competition there is against them. I have literally found 100's of keywords for this particular niche. However, they all receive pretty low monthly searches (ie 200-1500). Does anyone have any experience building authority sites that target search terms with such low volume?

I know most people stick to 1000+, but the shear volume of keywords receiving just a few hundred each month is pretty amazing, and it seems like they would add up quickly (in terms of traffic). CPC is actually pretty decent for such low terms, and the competition is all but non-existent. When I say non-existent I mean NON-existent. I have built amazon and clickbank sites before and got them ranking. From that experience, I would estimate that just a few high pr blog posts, articles and social bookmarks should have these pages ranking.

Anyway, I just wanted to run this by the community. I understand it will be a lot of content to produce, but considering how passionate I am about this topic it wouldn't be a problem at all. Like I said in the title, this is just a theory of a strategy at the moment, but it seems promising. Out of the IMing orthodox but promising none the less. Any pointers or advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like a good idea to go for. We also found a great keyword that fits into a similar scenario as yours. Right now we're a little busy, but once we get settled more into our niche sites project, we'll dive into making this keyword an authority site. The strategy for authority sites will likely be very similar to the one in our blog for niche sites.

My first download site (1,000+ pages) is based on a hobby that I enjoy, so it kind of made it less like work & more enjoyable to build pages/content.

The cool thing about a hobby niche is you can easily get a lot of traffic from related hobby forums, then use the SERPs as a secondary source of traffic, If a keyword drops in the SERPs it won't wipe out all your traffic.

Another thing about hobby forum traffic, it's literally impossible to give them enough content on the hobby their interested in, which makes it that much easier to build content for the site. Get involved in the most active forum related to your hobby/niche.

This thread might help with some ideas for your Adsense site (never mind the disgruntled comments in the link, lol).

Normally I wont go for any keywords that don't have more than 1000 gms. However I do own a few sites that were in the 720 gms range. I do make money daily on them, and the revenue adds up. The keywords that I do have that are very low monthly searches do have a pretty healthy CPC. That was a big part of the reason I went a head and built the sites. If the competition is low and you can get these sites ranked without spending much money on link juice, I would say go for it.

When you're building the site try to group the keywords together. There maybe hundreds of keywords in the 200-1000 exact search range, but I'm sure many of them are closely related. With that in mind, you can write your articles in such a manner than it targets more than just one keyword -- one article can target up to 3-5 related keywords.
