How do I optimize a two-word domain that's part of a three-word domain

Here's my problem. I have a website with a three word domain. For the sthe thread let me use "mybestfriend.com". My main keyword which is "my best friend" is somewhere on the first page in google. Now, another keyword "best friend" which is contained in the domain leaves my website on the third page. How is this possible considering the fact that every where I have my three word keyword I also have my two word keyword. How can I make the two-word keyword to also be on the first page since it's contained in the domain name.
