Hey, all

Thanks for all of the great posts and info on the forum. It's all coming together now.....slowly

Out of curiosity... how big of a role does backlinking/link building play in online SEO?

I know there is no magic bullet for SEO, but what do you, personally fell is the most important aspect (are the most important aspects) of SEO?

You don't have to go into detail, but this would expand my horizon on the situation.

Best

Alex

There are some great sticky threads in the SEO section of the WF. You'll find the best answers to your questions there.

The most important aspects of SEO are good content and good keyword selection, in my opinion.

Backlinks are also highly important because they are considered as a vote for your site... the quality of the backlink is important too.

You can buy spam packages (not recommended) which might occasionally produce good short term results, but as spammers can usually only get their links to stick on low quality sites, eventually those sites lose what link juice they have because they are linking to irrelevant content that doesn't contain any editorial merit.

      Yes, I agree!

I commit to the belief that content IS the most important part of any internet marketing strategy. You may have done a good job, and got your website up to page 1 of Google, but if your content isn't interesting or valuable at all, you won't be getting a lot of repeats. Your website's content is the key to building that connection between your website and your readers.

Don't make the mistake of equating content with just articles alone - videos, podcasts, images, comments, forums... basically everything that contains value to your readers comes under the heading "content".

About backlinking: backlinking is important, but only if you get the RIGHT backlinks. Like what Mick said, backlinks from irrelevant content isn't going to help you much in your climb to the first page of Google. In fact, you might even get slapped with penalties if you were to get backlinks from "bad" sites - snoop around the internet for more information about this.

Like Mick mentioned again, spamming backlinks isn't such a good idea, too. Google wants natural backlink growths, and I don't think a sudden jump to 3,000 backlinks in one day is going to sit well with Google.

SEOFriendles is right, although Google can reward you greatly with a sudden jump in the link graph, but only under the right circumstances.

Chances are Google crawls the web starting at the highest PR sites (probably but I'm not sure if they have confirmed that?) and works its way down.

If your site receives a link from a high PR site, Google expects the link to spread naturally - but quickly.

Google will also expect to see your link on a range of different type of websites.

Now, if your site receives thousands of links from low PR sites, Google assumes it's spam because there's no logical reason for the link to spread across low quality sites so quickly.

That's my understanding on how things work, but things might have changed.

I think most social media networks are nofollow, so they don't pass link juice.

Google does look at social media networks to see what's currently happening.. so while a link might not do you much good, your site being mentioned in conjunction with other SEO efforts might pay off.

Again, because the algorithm is so secret it's all just theory.

What's the advantage of having effects on a separate aux track as opposed to just using inserts on the audio track? Is the main thing, just efficiency? If you want the same reverb with the same settings on two tracks, it'd be wasteful to have two plugins running, so you might as well just send them both to an aux track. I get that part. But are there any other reasons to send stuff to effects rather than insert effects?
