Hey,

I'm in the Internet Marketing world for a couple of years now and mostly do affiliate with other vendors. If there was something useful I learned in this world is not rely on Google....it can help but don't let it be your primary source of traffic because any small change to its algorithm and your sites are way down...and with it the revenue.

My question here: How do you not rely on Google when it comes to Internet Marketing? Do you build a social group around Facebook? Twitter? Mailing List?

Would love to hear ideas how do you get your traffic and don't care what Google does...I have to find a way not to rely on Google for my revenue if I want to succeed in this field and make a living from it....

What do you say guys? Let's help each other here.

Thank you...

Most of my sites have content that I give away on very targeted sub-forums that are in the same niche.

The most important part of forum traffic is to never spam your links. You can bait traffic, but the reason they leave the forum to land on your sites pages should only be for FREE content.

Don't force the traffic to optin to your email list in order to get the free content, you want people on your list/pages because they like what you have to offer.

When the traffic likes your content, they'll tell others about what you have which equals more traffic & repeat traffic.

Most people I see trying to get traffic from forums screw it up because they don't know the difference between spamming links & creating authority on a sub-niche.

You have to give the traffic a reason to trust you, which isn't difficult, just offer up good free content & move the traffic to whatever your promoting (affiliate offer, email optin list, etc...) after they get the content.

My ultimate goal for traffic has been 50% forum traffic & 50% SERP traffic, helps keep the sites traffic diversified.

      Hey Yukon,

I understand what you're saying but I feel it's not enough to build a good business and sites around that...

What about building a facebook and twitter followers? Gain mailing list from the site? I mean, I can't rely on Google...

Facebook, twitter ..it's good to have. But it just doesn't add up to much.

I have one site with 40,000 fans combined on twitter & facebook, the next one has 8,000. I promote regularly and engage with them but traffic from these two sources has never been more than 10%.

I get links and traffic from forums and other sites like yahoo answers, but they, too, never reach double digit percentages.

In the end, when you step back and look at your analytics and compare the performance of these traffic sources with search engine traffic or news search traffic. What you find that SE traffic, converts MUCH MUCH better - i mean clicks on adsense, opt-ins, sales. It's almost not even worth the effort to build a social presence. The only reason I keep at it is not for the traffic, but because it is now a strong search engine signal.

Maybe it's just the niches I'm in. (Health, Construction and Entertainment)

I suppose it just depends on how you promote your Adsense. Example, my email optin list on one of my Adsense sites is around 1,000 optins, today was a very good day for earnings (republished old content to my email list early yesterday). My Adsense email list usually out performs my actual sites earnings.

I've just started republishing older content targeting my Adsense email list, it's working very well so far.

If you haven't tested Feedburner (email) + Adsense on your traffic/email-list, you might be surprised how easy the traffic converts to earnings.

My advice is to get your traffic on a Feedburner email list, & monetize the list at least once weekly.

Right now I'm doing zero new content on this one site, I'm simply republishing older content on my site & my email list is sending me thank you messages.

Forum members are most times very dedicated to the forum subject/niche, unlike FB & Twitter traffic.

Look at this forum here, every single legit member is very interested in earning money online. Same goes for all other forums, the traffic on popular niche forums are dedicated to the niche. Dedicated traffic helps create dedicated traffic to your site. All I know is I'm happy with the traffic I get from niche forums.

          Hey Yukon,

I have built niche sites for a couple of years but now I'm thinking about building big, huge, monster sites for specific niche which is more general and is always searched for.

What I'm saying is that I know of people who build their business the right and smart way and they don't rely on Google and its craziness...

It doesn't make sense that if Google changes an algorithm I'll get hit because I am not a big authority business, I don't have that kind of funds and money to build hundreds of links each and every day...I build links, I add content but you can't rely on Google for your business....can't put all your eggs in one basket...that is why I am asking which are other ways to gain traffic to your site.

I'm sure there's another way guys....please help, can't let Google dictate my site's revenue.

          Thank you!

For my little side hobby (sig below lol) I use signatures and also paid forum posts. Luckily for me im in the SEO / IM sort of field and its a bit different. Most forums don't have a "for sale" sort of section so if I do go to others I rely on the signature area like Yukon has suggested.

Facebook and other social media platforms can work if you have the right product. If you don't then it will fail miserably.
