Kindle Niche Research? How To Do It?

Hello Warriors, ive been searching through the warrior forum looking for threads on kindle niche research, i couldnt find anything relevant. So im asking here:

How do you search for kindle niches to write books on?

- Ive published 8 kindle books now. (i didnt really research for the niche on any of the 8 books.)

So.. does any kindle publisher want to share how they look for good niches?

      When i come to build a website, i just think of an idea and build it. I tend to be successful.

    Use the Google keyword tool to find keywords with good volume (about 10-20k) then choose that keyword as the title of your kindle book. That will get you some decent traffic.

    Three sites:

    1. Amazon

    2. Magazines.com

    3. Bookstores

    Amazon

    People who buy from Amazon, BUY from Amazon. Think about it.

    Contrast this with people who hunt for info online; they want info, they don't want to BUY.

    Since Amazon is where the buyers are, use Amazon as a resource. Check out the 100 top sellers in the Kindle store.

    Check out nonfiction or fiction books: if a book is in the top 20,000 of sales in the Kindle store, then it's making sales.

    Magazines.com

    I can spend ten minutes on Discount Magazine Subscriptions & Deals | Magazines.com and come up with 10 or 20 ideas for ebooks. Magazines SELL -- they make money, or they go broke. If there's a magazine for something, it means advertisers, and advertisers are making money...

    Bookstores

    Yes, this sounds hopelessly old-fashioned... :-)

    Go and wander through a bookstore. Look at the books, read the tables of contents. Make notes.

    BIG TIP: WRITE WHAT YOU WANT TO READ.

    Amazon is for readers. Become one. Then you'll know what you want to write.

    Some great resources mentioned here....I would also check out Audible.com You can get an idea of what people are currently buying in terms of audiobooks. I've seen books become popular there and then rise in popularity on other marketplaces.

      Angela makes great points. Keyword research for Amazon is different than regular keyword research, though GAKT can be helpful.

      Go to Amazon and look in the best selling categories. When you type in your niche idea at Amazon look and see what pops up when Amazon tries to complete your search query. It is thought that these are ordered by popularity. And you can also do well by writing in smaller niches if there is enough interest. This can be determined by looking at sales ranking for similar types of titles.

      There is also an ebook research tool on the market that helps with selection by sharing the sales ranking average of the books in the niche. The number of pages of results indicating interest in the niche. And that there is at least one result with best seller rank.

      It makes sense that if someone is interested in a certain niche they will likely buy more books in that niche.

      Another thought is to look at the hard covers that are doing well and see if you can find any with topics that are not represented in the Kindle marketplace.

      For fiction, you would also do well to look in the top sellers and see what is moving.
