How to build diverse backlinks?

Like a lot of people here, I base a lot of my link building around BMR.
And since I don't want to get slapped by Google, I finally decided to diversify my backlink profile.
I know that to diversify my profile, I should include various 2.0 sites such as Squidoo, free blogs (wordpress, blogger, tumblr), commenting, and social bookmarking.
But what is the best ratio of backlinks to have? Should I have more BMR posts or more 2.0 sites?
