How Many Pages Do I need For Each Site

Hi there, I am a IM newbie, and currently trying to build websites to promote clickbank products.

I have been doing the AffiloBlueprint Course and it suggests building 30 pages website. But when I look around on google, i see a lot of top ranked pages only have a few pages in the site.

So my question is, Are the number of pages all that important when it comes to getting good rankings? What would be the minimum pages I will need to get good search engines rankings providing I do other SEO things correct?

And lastly, is the answer to my question different if I am doing an adsense site rather than an affiliate site?

Thanks in Advance

That is an interesting question. There are many factors that have an affect on how well you rank but I'm not sure weather the physivcal number of pages on a site is one of them, or one that makes any significant difference. As long as you have all your on page sorted and also have enough quality, unique and consistently increasing content then the actual number of pages should not really matter.

Size doesn't matter. It's all about links.

Actually size of the site does matter.

You'll never get multiple SERP listings for a single keyword with a single page site (never).

I would rather have the opportunity to rank 2-3 pages for the same keyword than a single page ranked. Your competition is most likely doing like the majority of IMers & only worried about ranking a single page per keyword. Go all out & take advantage of multiple SERP listings per keyword or don't waste your time with SEO.

You can backlink that one page all day long, but a well structured/themed site with multiple pages will rank better than a single page trying to rank on it's own, with the same external backlinks.

Get more mileage from your external links by building multiple themed pages, it's just easier.

Also, you'll never get any Google Sitelinks with a single page site.

Thanks man, but not sure if i understand fully what you mean. So you are saying for each keyword I should have 2 or 3 articles/pages for it?

Atm my sites have around 10 pages and each page/article have different keywords, I guess I should be making more pages on the keywords that I think that are going to make me more money?

SEO is just like fishing, your testing the waters (SERPs) to see If you get any bites (traffic).

Example, If you have a page ranked #1 in the SERPs & that page is getting 100 hits per day, that's your chance to build more tightly themed new pages for the same exact keyword.

Why settle for 100 traffic per day (example), for a single keyword, when positions #2 & #3 might have another 75-50 traffic hits.

A lot of people go chasing after so many new keywords & don't realize they could very well get more traffic out of their existing keywords by ranking multiple tightly themed pages.

Back to the fishing analogy above, If you catch 100 fish (SERP traffic) why wouldn't you keep fishing in the same spot? The same is true with the SERPs, the #1 ranked keyword might get the most traffic, but #2 - #10 in the SERPs still have a few traffic to catch.

I have a site with a page and a supporting post for that page at positions 6 and 7 on page one. It isn't really high volume keyword but it is still really cool seeing it. It's the first time I have been able to do this.

  • It basically depends upon your requirement. Your website could have many pages but they should seem useful and relevant to your website. So number of pages does not really matter a lot!

if you can describe your website or your service in one page then its enough for you. actually you don't need 10000 pages to get higher rank. the main thing is back links and link juice.

Around 10 pages are enough. Of course you will need much more if you are trying to build an authority site.

Nice one, thanks very much for the advices guys, building a 10 page website instead of a 30 pages one will sure save me a lot of time and money.

The more the better. To dont look spammy I always suggest to build websites with at least 8 pages.

But if you consider it. 30 pages will probably bring you lot more visitors. IF, they contain more unique content and topics on your subject.

You don't need a quadrillion pages, but it's nice to have. That's why forums pop up in google so often - they have a large number of longtail keyword pages (read: threads).

Want more traffic? Build some content!

That video from Matt was pretty simple and too the point. At times I still run into this question in my head as in "What is the best size for a website"?

The vid pretty much answers it all.

    Thanks for sharing!

I does not matter whether it is an Adsense site or an affliate site, what google wants is quality, original and relevant content. The number of pages does not really matter. It is better to have a 5 page site with quality content than a 30 page site with a lot of fluff.

Well I don't think no. of pages matter, all that matters is the quality of pages and you should put the keywords properly in a webpage.

When u say putting the keywords properly, do u mean putting it in the h1 title, in the first sentence and last sentence and enough of them throughout the article without making it sound awkward?

Thanks to everyone who has commented here, really appreciate your help

I would shoot for around 15 for a website launch. Make sure they are very targeted and very niche. Than I would release an article or two every week for about 3 months.

Micro niche sites have few number of pages. They are made targeting 1 or 2 products for promoting affiliate pages. By the way number of pages do not affect search engine ranking. Important matter is quality of content and technique of optimization.

You can optimize a page only for so many keywords, so if you want to target extra related keywords you need more pages. Its all up to you and to the niche how far you want to go into it.
