Site hacked - phishing pages were uploaded

Stupid WordPress themes that allow hackers to upload their nasty scripts! Grr

What happened was my site was compromised and pages that looked like a bank website login were placed on my site. My hosting company were not happy, to say the least.

So Google indexed this crap too, and now I lost all my rankings as a result. My site is still found in Google if I type in the domain name, but that's about it. I was ranking top 5 for my keyword, but the site has no ranking at all now for that keyword. Nada.

What do I do about this?

Is the problem site the link in your forum sig.?

Firts thing I would do is check your Wordpress theme templates, do a page search of the source code for the exact keyword base64

If you find base64 in your theme template files, changing the theme should fix the problem.

Uh no, that won't fix the problem at all. The infected files will still be resident in the WordPress installation not to mention any shells or other programs to allow remote access to the site.

Simply changing the theme does nothing to solve the actual problem.

    No, it's a different site.

The hacker stuff is gone a long time ago. I still am dropped by Google.

Nothing you can do about your rankings. As long as you got rid of the virus for sure, then just put the content back on and make some new links to the site.

And do what yukon said to prevent this from happening again.

You'll have to delete and reinstall WP. Hopefully the DB hasn't been effected, though you might want to pay someone to look in to this for you.

Once things are back on track, install some WP security plugins such as 'Secure Wordpress', 'Wordpress Firewall 2', and 'BulletProof Security' (they are all free).

    Good luck!

The wordpress and hacking part has taken care of.

I just hope I can get back at the top in Google again! Does this mean it is going to way harder to rank where I used to rank, because Google is now "suspicious" of my site?
