6 month sandbox?

Hi all,
SEO isn't really my strong suit so I figured I'd ask in here. I talked to someone today that works for an SEO company, we were discussing a new domain name, maybe a month old.

He said that there was no point in doing any SEO until after 6 months because the site will be sandboxed that whole time period. I've never heard this but didn't really feel in the position to debate anything.

Is there any value to that idea?

    I disagree. There is always a point to doing SEO.

    But he is right about a six month time period before you can expect rankings. Those links will still add up over time though.

      ^This guy's right. You might not see instant reactions in the first 4 to 6 months, but it never does any harm to do proper SEO, and it will eventually help your site a lot.

    Effective backlinking is one of the very few ways of getting OUT of the sandbox (which of course, doesn't even exist). Better content, more content, better seo, more seo. It works.

      You can target non-competitive keywords to avoid the sandbox. You can jump up the ranks very quickly by doing this. Unfortunately those keywords may not be getting many searches, so your traffic may be low.
      The more competitive a keyword is, the longer it takes to get out of the sandbox. Just keep creating backlinks and work on your content.

    It's worth noting that having an aged domain isn't usually the answer, however a domain with authority and age does seem to help to beat the sandbox - whilst the sandbox may not exist, the affect that comes with the name certainly does.

    There is very little point buying a domain or allowing it to age, during this time you could have been adding backlinks and the sandbox period can be between one to two months, or longer if you're crap at making an apparently natural backlink profile.

    One way that gives a very high chance of bypassing the sandbox appears to be adding backlinks at a slow pace to start and slowly bulking up each week - this along with only using your keyword 60% of the time maximum appears to help you miss the sandbox all together.

    The above along with buying or using a 2+ year domain would help significantly. You must also realise that when referring to domain age, this should refer to the amount of time that any given site has been IN the Google index for - not the actual age of he domain.

        The term isn't the important factor here, the most important part of what the OP was talkin about is the effect. It doesn't matter what you all it, at the end of the day the effect is the same.

    If the keywords are less competetive, with some backlinkings the site may appear in front page of google within weeks., maybe within days. I have faced it before. If the is well optimised and the content is good you can start backlinking right away.
