Just got my adsense disabled for invalid clicks, yet I did do anything wrong.

Hi guys,
My adsense account just got disabled for invalid clicks, I have never ever clicked on my own ads or broken any of the TOS for that matter. I got click bombed last week and reported the suspicious activity to google almost immediately. I've just submitted an appeal, and google says that I will have to wait a week or more before I get a result.

This whole thing has really shaken me up as I rely on my adsense as a significant part of my income and I have always been soooo careful to follow googles TOS to a t.

Anyway thought I would share this as it seems that click bombing is still alive and working. I will get back to yous with what google's out come is.

It will be interesting to see if google really protects their publishers from these kind of attacks.

Glen-Andrew

I wish you luck. I think it's a good thing that you notified them right away.

I know of another person who went through the same thing, and he was cleared (but it took quite awhile). He not only notified Google, but he also pulled all his ads until he could find out what was going on.

Actually yesterday was a very good day ($$) for me & I'm an Adsense publisher.

My Adsense/Feedburner email list is doing very well.

My brother is kicking butt with Youtube/Adsense (very consistent earnings).

My point is, just because a few people have a problem with their Adsense accounts, doesn't mean everyone is having the same problem.

Chances are the traffic source is what's killing Adsense accounts.

Nowadays, google started to ban accounts in bunch and not delivering proper reasons, that shows how they love their publishers...

Just move on to CPA or affiliate programs, that would be better way to make money and even more than adsense!

Take it as a blessing in disguise, I've been down that road, lost almost $1900 finalized earnings. I work with other companies, and I have people I can actually speak to if there are any issues, no hidden agendas. Don't get me wrong, there are people making a lot of money with adsense but I sleep better at night not having to deal with them anymore.
There have been a lot of innocent people banned, and even some very reputable bloggers that were screwed over too. Whatever happens, use this as a warning sign to diversify, best of luck!

Google will protect the advertisers WAY before they side with the publisher. Rightfully so. The advertisers is where Google makes all its money. Publishers are a dime a dozen and if they detect any suspicious activity they will play it safe and just ban your account. If every publisher in the world had just 1 invalid click a month that would probably cost Google Millions a month. So they have to be strict. Sometimes suspended accounts can happen to innocent people but Google has very sophisticated ways to detect click validity and I would say 9x out of 10 the publisher broke TOS somehow. I highly doubt you will get your account back. You can get another account if you have an LLC to register it under.

Adsense bans every day hundreds (or thousand!) of users... In some cases WITHOUT any reason.. I think you should forget about them and begin with another one... Adsense lost about 75% of their users last year... And this process will continue!

So if google bans most of its publishers while at the same time making it hard for new publishers signing up... what are they trying to do? What is the future of adsense?

I know that they are pushing very had to get more advertisers. Everytime I log into adwords they call me and and try to talk me into using adwords even though I always show no actual interest in it.

Those people that get Adsense accounts banned without reason, supposing they speak the truth, I'm always a bit doubtfull about that, sorry, would people from non English speaking countries have a higher chance of getting their account banned when they make websites written in English then when they would stick to their mother language?

Same with blog networks where people see their sites deindexed, my sites that I worked on are in dutch, as I'm from Holland, my clients are mostly located in the US and their sites are written in English. Maybe your location/origin is a sign that your gaming the system cause why would a dutch guy want to write a site in English? (taking myself as example obv)

The reason I mention this is because it seems TONS of people get their adsense account banned for NO reason, and TONS of people get their sites deindexed for using blog networks. I'm a guy who has a lot of bad luck on many fronts but haven't experienced any of these DOOM stories in anyway, is my luck evening out here? You know, all these stories make me a little scared sometimes. Maybe I should quit reading forums.

Anyway, good luck making money without being dependant on Adsense, I also heard many stories people were happy that Adsense banned them cause there are much better opportunities out there, don't ask me which, I have no clue really, probably has to do with cpa that I have zero faith in tbh.

I have no idea but i dont think that your country or website language would have any affect on banning... It simply comes down to it you have invalid clicks.

Just for the record, I'm from Australia, I have sites that are for the US and also for Australia only. All of them are in english.

Actually there was a reason why my account was banned; invalid clicks. They were very obvious and I reported them to google immediately. I have been using adsense for 5 years and have never had invalid clicks... this month however I either got attacked or some 12 year old decided to click on 8 ads all at once. I have never done anything be to attacked however, its the internet (the most malicious place on earth) and these things happen to people all the time.

Thankyou, I also have no faith in cpa.... in fact I hate the thought of using it because I want my sites to be of the highest quality and to provide the most benefit to the user. I just can't see how cpa could fit into that.

I think that another Adsense-banned thread kept hanging in my head or something cause my reply isn't very relevant to your case indeed. Invalid clicks just sucks bigtime, I'm sure you'll get it sorted it out and be able to make money from Adsense soon again.

Nice to see we think the same about cpa. Bit irrelevant but personally I just made a site about Payday Loans, found some good keywords, but instead of promoting it heavily to apply for such loan I point my visitors at the risk of them. One easy loan, 2 easy loans, 3 easy loans and before you know it you're dealing with insanely high interest rates and filling one gap with the other. Luckily many people are stupid enough to only want something more when someone advices against it, so I'm still able to make money from it lol. Intention is too make money from the site but this side-effect psychology thing wasn't intended

Reading the official adsense forum over at google. It seems that everyone who got click bombed this month has been banned, everyone is saying that they reported it and took steps to stop it, however google disabled them anyway. I think that google must have made the decision to no longer take click bombing reports into account.

Google has said that click bombing only happens to a small percent of people, this I do believe. So I guess that google is just thinking that they are willing to lose that 'small percent'

If this is true it's very unfortunate. People would now have the ability to destroy their competition.

I've always wondered about about accidental click-bombs. I'm positive there are web users who know nothing about Adsense. These people would use your skyscraper ad block as a menu. Click, back, click next ad, back, etc... just looking for something interesting.

How many clicks constitutes a "click-bomb". How many before red flags go off at Google headquarters. I was scared to death once when someone clicked on 7 ads within 45 seconds. That was about five years ago, nothing happened except I only got paid for one click.

Here's an idea. Instead of permanently banning accounts, they should put accounts on "time out". If you trigger the "abuse threshold", you get no revenue for those clicks and your account goes into a "time out", and no ads are served:

One "time out" = 2 hours suspension
Two "time outs" within 24 hours = 7 days suspension
Four "time outs" within 30 days = account review

It should not take any additional Google manpower as it can easily be automated, except the one time writing and installing the code.

C'mon now, Google isn't banning most of it's publishers.

The guys/gals that post on forums asking for help or claiming they were banned from Adsense are not the majority of Adsense publishers.

The guys that don't have a problem with Adsense don't create new forum help threads, because things are running smooth, you'll probably never hear from them.

I see plenty of smaller sites still running Adsense Ads.

I agree with you here but after doing alot of kw research lately I DID see a LOT of sites that looked like the typical Adsense site at page 1 but I was missing the Adsense ads and couldnt locate any affiliate monetizing either. You have any thoughts on that, it's not something that I spotted once or I wouldn't even have remembered it.

True, I was just going off what patco said in his post. I have no idea how many people get banned... I would however say that 80% of people that get banned did nothing wrong. From what I understand its very rare that people click there own ads and try to cheat, whats a lot more common is that people get click bombed. Google knows this but disables there accounts anyway as google doesn't really care if you did anything wrong they just want to protect their advertisers. They also have stopped caring about whether or not you reported the invalid clicks...

The worst part is that as a webmaster you have very little control over what visitors do on your sites. If they want to click something they will click it.

It is also my understanding that the smaller sites that get click bombed will be instantly disabled while larger sites with a lot of traffic are givin more grace but can still be taken down by larger scale attacks. I don't think anyone is protected, any time ads are running on any of your sites you are at risk of being banned. It has nothing to do with whether you broke the terms and conditions. It all comes down to how much of a risk you are to google, and no one has anyway of controlling if they get clickbombed.

I know of some webmasters that will only serve an ad one time to each ip and then never again, not only does this lose them a ton of legit income but it also does nothing as clickbombers that attack these sites will click, change ip, click, change ip, click, change ip. To google this looks just as bad as if it were the same ip and they still get disabled.

This month there are a large number of people that got click bombed, reported it, did everything to stop it and then got banned (including me). So if their is one thing I have learnt from all of this, its that click bombing works and if click bombing works then there will only be more of it to come... eventually it will come to the point where google will have to start protecting publishers, but for now they don't have to, they have more publishers then they know what to do with so they will continue to get rid of any that have invalid clicks (from any source and for any reason)

The thing is, in threads like these you only hear from the dolts that screwed up their adsense accounts. For all of those there is a huge unheard population that find adsense provides a worthwhile return for their content.

I'd never rely on it, but it's great source to tap into right now.

Even though google doesn't owe anything to you the worse part is when you house their ads on your site, they finalize your earnings and they pull a few days before you are suppose to get paid.

The funny thing is I keep reading about how sophisticated google is, and I hate to break it to you, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

When I was banned from google adsense, I was following the terms religiously. I had an account for several years and had even been paid by them before.

After my aprox. $1900 finalized earnings were taken away, appeal denied, and being completely left in the dark I did some investigation.

I found other websites with less content (some with really crappy content), same adsense layout still there for months at a time.

Even one of my competitors has a big freaking title/sign above his adsense ads saying other medical websites.

It just makes me cringe that he has been able to maintain that adsense for months with that obvious violation of the TOS.

So to set the record straight, don't give them more credit then they deserve. It's only a matter of time before adsense loses its lead in the markets.

For myself, one of the outlets I took was through educational leads. I have someone I can directly call, IM, at business hours that manages my account, lets me know when there are issues, etc.

That is the legitimate way you do a business, and if you want to make it in this industry that is the type of professional relationships you should build.

As for everyone chasing the adsense dream, sure it can be there, it may last for you, but you are highly at stake for waking up in the morning to that dreaded message.

I am personally glad to get that garbage off my website, things look a lot more professional, if anyone has been banned and needs any advice where to turn, feel free to PM me.

My appeal has failed. Funny thing is that everyone in the same boat as me who all got disabled on Friday. We have all been talking and we all got the same email at exactly the same time. So I'm thinking that appeals are not even reviewed by humans otherwise everyone's results should come at different times

One thing to bear in mind is that presently Adsense has between 2,000,0000 - 3,000,000 publishers worldwide, that figure was revealed by a Google engineer on their forum.

To me, that is a VERY large figure, when you consider that only about 3 years ago, they were still offering email support. Anyone remember that?

Obviously, Google cleans up house from time to time, and this very likely involves arbitrarily banning accounts. Perhaps not in the past, but now it is happening. Everything is done with automation.

They even banned a Premium Publisher a couple of weeks ago, that was making a VERY huge amount from Adsense. That guy just got banned like that and he could not even contact anyone at Adsense although he was a Premium Publisher....the guy had to go to the forum to appeal. You would think with the amount he is making, and his "status", that he would get a human review. Nope, and I think his appeal was turned down.

If you ask me considering all that is going on including their massive algo updates recently, I would say there are "dark" undercurrents swirling inside Google as of this moment, and as I said in another thread, it does not look good.

I'm sorry to hear that everyone is having such a tough time with Adsense of late. I just reponded to a similar thread that involved click bombing by a visitor, and the person is appealing the ban due to the matter being out of his hands.

That's the difficult part about being such a big advertising medium. They probably figure it's cheaper to cut their losses than to hire more people to police the situation. There are other alternatives to Adsense, so I hope you are all taking it in stride.

It's not easy to bounce back from getting banned, but if you made it with Adsense you can definitely find another ad provider or another monetization method. I wish you all good luck.

Adsense is a great way of making a consistent income online, but is a little scary when you hear these stories. If you are going to do adsense in the future make sure to have another stream of income otherwise you just get wiped out whenever google decides to pull the pin on you.

As I said in my huge post YOU GUYS ARE SLAVES TO GOOGLE
they can kick you to the curb in 5 minutes

If you get invalid clicks they do not care if you report it or not
their policy is ban the user, its cleaner for them than trying to prove who did what to who and why

and dont go crying to them for reconsideration, they dont reply to emails
you are nothing but a number to them, they have money you dont
    and they dont care

It makes you wonder if Adsense is worth the trouble. The income can be good if you have a niche site with good keywords BUT they can do whatever they want to you, whenever they want without recourse. It's disturbing when they can't tell you what you did wrong (and you know you did nothing at all to incur their wrath!)

After you've been around IM for a while, you'll learn that those self proclaimed gurus are making money from people/traffic that act on emotions.

Notice that same page/content is stuffed with affiliate links that will save you from the big bad Google.

When surfing those guys sites, keep both eyes open & one hand on your wallet.

Well, it's sounds like a trend and kinda concerning to see tons of people
got mass banned for fraud click inactivity for no-reason for the last few
months. Some even lost few thousand dollars because of it.

What's more concerning is there's really rare case to hear the publisher
were winning the case via appeal form that google suggested.

What concerns me is that we help google with their business, we as publishers help their advertisers so its a both win win situation, now for people who do this properly and never do nothing black hat i see that they are also getting banned for something they havnet done wrong.

Should be a point where google needs to listen to Internet Markerters, what if all the marketers join a facebook page, or a petition and forward it to the man people at google, yes they might not listen but they might.

Its about time that google adsense team listens to the publishers aswell as i believe we also play an important part in google too.

      G'day ,

Let's fact it Google is just another money hungry mercenary corporation run by a bunch of mercenary money hungry pricks who just don't give a damn for anything other than self interest and profit no matter what the cost.
Sooner or later they will get what they really deserve - complete annihilation imposed by the majority of the people who enabled their success in the first place.

Seems to me that Google can see the invalid click bombing, especially if you tell them about iy. And just cancel them and yuou go on about your business. Banning someone for this type of activity is going over board. You can't stop someone from click bombing you. There is a much easier and more profitable solution for all parties than the banning. If google is so smart, why arn'y they taking an alternative routre? Just doesn't make sense. I thought Google was smart?

Was Google Adsense making me any money? Not a lot. I have other methods SEO, Video marketing, product creation, offering services etc.

However adsense was starting to make me some money. I had been using it ONLY on my YouTube videos for a few months and then I received the invalid activity email and could not understand what I had done wrong. I never clicked on my ads or encouraged anyone to do so.

Here was part of my response to them

"I did not entice anyone to click on my ads and I have never clicked my own ads

I did notice that I received several spam comments on
this YouTube video "I of course gave a link" That could be the cause. Last time I checked there were about 5 comments that users had marked as spam. I see now it is down to 2."
This is only part of the message, sorry when I went to find sent email it would not show up and when I went to there reply email it had my message all scrambled.

    They responded by saying

    "Hello,

Thank you for your appeal. We appreciate the additional information you've provided, as well as your continued interest in the AdSense program. However, after thoroughly re-reviewing your account data and taking your feedback into consideration, our specialists have confirmed that we're unable to reinstate your AdSense account.

Please know that, once we've reached a decision on your appeal, further appeals may not be considered, and you might not receive any further communication from us. Note that AdSense publishers whose accounts are disabled for violations of our Terms and Conditions are not eligible for further participation in AdSense. For this reason, you may not open new accounts.

Also, accounts disabled for invalid click activity will receive no further payment nor any reissue of previous payment. Your outstanding balance and Google's share of the revenue will both be fully refunded back to the affected advertisers. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

We understand that you may want more information about your account activity. However, because we have a need to protect our proprietary detection systems, we're unable to provide our publishers with any details about their account activity."
I find it slightly disheartening that according to this email I can never use Adsense again. Especially considering I only used it on videos and not on any of my sites. One income stream gone forever or until Google decides otherwise. I am not holding my breath however and found these articles to be of good reading.
