I would say you lose about 20-30 percent unless the names are almost identical and of the same age. If you are ranked really well for say magic tricks and your name has that in the domain and then you 301 to a domain name that does not have magic in it then you will lose keyword rankings that were ranking well because of the keywords specifically in you domain. It will not transfer the rank very well.
Jakson, that is one gobbledygook answer.

There will be loss of PR over time, and some immediately.

There is no reason to 301 in your instance. People use a
301 redirect in cases where it was not intended.

The real way would be to put a link to the new domain, choosing
great anchor text and an explanation, on the main page of the old
site. Up top and center. Instant backlink to boot.

People should learn how to use old, indexed content to the fullest.
      Not obliterate it.

I wouldnt say you would get all of it, but I dont think your going to get penalised for doing it. 301 it then start building links and you should be sweet

301 permanent redirect to new URL will pass all link value, backlinks to the new redirected URL.

Well it will pass the PR for the new domain. You have to make the content and design in proper manner. If you do it only for the PR then it might be possibility your PR will decrease. You have to make the site live and execute the steps or you can say process according Google guidelines particular for design. Hope this helps.

As well as saying in the same sentence, it will lose some.

This is not the same animal as 301 with an internal page.

My mistake. You win the prize for gobbledygook.

    To summarize, YES.

You will lose a small percentage of your PR, but not much. Most of it will pass through.

Assuming you are using a linux based host you'll need to have FTP access to your .htaccess file. In a text editor add the following:

      Options +FollowSymLinks
      RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule (.*) full path to the new domain/$1 [R=301,L]

Edit the bolded part to the new domain including http

Mod Rewrite must be enabled (Fat cow, Hostgator, Godaddy, and most hosts either do by default, or allow you to activate it)

Have you checked the backlinks on this domain? It could say PR9 and if it doesn't have any or enough quality links its not worth the time. A REAL PR 7 likely is going to run you in the thousands.

I'll let others talk about the 301 redirect because I don't even buy the premise of redirecting a PR7 that has the link juice. It it is a complete waste of a PR7 to redirect it. Total waste. If you get a PR 6 and up you build it and leverage it for more links. Once you use a domain in a redirect theres nothing else you can do with it.

Again - Total fail as a strategy.
