1 Page Websites : Can You Confirm More Difficult To Rank?

Can anyone point me toward some PROOF that 1 page websites are harder to rank? Or that the more pages you have, the BETTER you rank?

I have heard this factor come up on the odd occasion, but I am wondering how much effect this really has on the SERPS?

    you can have 1 page with quality content and great on page seo and it will rank . Google (i think) expect to see a 'contact' and (i think) an 'about ' page but these can be minimal

    I'll be testing this myself. I've got an EMD site that I'd like to build out, but I don't really have the time right now. So I put up one page with about 1,100 words of content (plus an about/contact page and a privacy policy page)

    It's in a niche I'm passionate for, so I expect to build it out eventually. But it will be interesting to see how it works out with just that content.
