Aged Domains VS New Domains - Has the Playing Field Finally Changed?

Back in the day aged domains won over new domains hands down. They would rank WAY faster (usually within 1-2 months, for medium competition keywords).

But it seems that new domains are doing better nowadays. At least in some cases (and hopefully this is finally true).

So what do you guys think?

If I take a new domain with my target keyword in the domain (not EMD, but keyword in the actual domain name), will it rank as fast/easy as using a 5+ year old domain with PR2 - PR3??

I have ranked tons of aged PR2 & PR3 domains within a month or two for medium competition keywords. But I haven't really tried brand new domains in awhile.

I have yet to see a brand new domain rank nearly as fast as an aged domain with existing PR2 or better.

The only thing holding me back from using aged domains is the fact that they tend to have names that are not relevant to the keyword that I want to target.

So why would I care about that? Because from what I have read, it triggers a spam flag to the google manual reviewers/raters.

I mean think about it... it cries spam. I am pretty sure that google knows about register compass, and that people like us buy aged domains just to "manipulate our rankings"... heh.

But anyways, what do you guys think? Do brand new domains have a serious disadvantage compared to aged domains with existing pagerank?

Thanks.

The age of the domain name more than 5 years will not fall into Google Sandbox

Hi, this is Uwe from RegisterCompass.

All I can say it still works fine with Google.
It is just harder and more expensive to get the really good domains.

This is because more and more Seo move into such domains instead of paying monthly for link rental.

Anyway it can happen that such a domain gets worthless - but then take the content and move it to a new domain

What the smart guys are doing is buying old domains

then doing a 301 redirect to their new domains

A contextual backlink from old high PR domain is much better than 301 redirect.

Depends what you call smart.... I do know companies doing this with great effect...however.... I also know Google's spam team are looking into ways to detect this. Matt Cutts even has it in a recent video that all can view on youtube.

Basically what I am trying to say is this is black hat, its purely manipulating the serps and if your looking for long term results, avoid it.

Aged domains definitely have more power than new domains. Aged domains already have years of authority in Google along with tons of backlinks. You rank much quicker with an aged domain rather than building authority to a brand new domain.

I bought a pretty nice aged domain a few weeks ago and had it ranked within a week by putting a website up along with adding some content and a few backlinks.

Take a new domain and then start building quality backlinks. Sit back. Sleep while google is working to help you fly.

There is still an obvious difference. Domain age indicates the experience of a domain or a certain brand. It's just one of the ranking factors for authority. But ultimately, if a domain shows more relevancy to a search query, it makes more sense to display it. That's probably why new emds are working.
