Keyword Density - SEOPressor vs Easy WP SEO

Hey fellow warriors,

I have a question for all the SEO savvy out there as I'm only just starting to expand my online business into the niche site realm. As I'm starting to write my own content and dealing with on page SEO for the first time, I want to make sure I do it properly from the get-go!

I own both SEOPressor and Easy WP SEO and for the most part they seem to do mostly the same checks, granted EWS is a bit more robust. The only discrepancy I've come across between the tools in regards to Keyword Density.

I've been told that 2.5-3.0% KW density with SEOPressor is ideal, and created my articles based on that figure. However Easy WP SEO says the same content has a KW density of 9%, which by the tools guidelines is far too high.

Which leads to my dilemma:

1. For those with experience with both tools, which is more accurate for calculating KW density?

2. As a standard, what's a healthy keyword density %?

3. Is this something I should even be concerned about? How big a difference is 3% and 9% in Google's eyes?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    1. For those with experience with both tools, which is more accurate for calculating KW density? :

Just count how many words are on your page and count the amount of time your keyword pops up

    1/100 words = 1%
    2/100 words = 2%

    so on...

    2. As a standard, what's a healthy keyword density %?

    1-3%

    3. Is this something I should even be concerned about? How big a difference is 3% and 9% in Google's eyes?

    I wouldn't go over 3%

SEOPressor doesn't take the number of words in your key phrases into account when determining the density. Easy WP SEO has 2 formulas, one which does and one which doesn't. It sounds like you're using the one that does, which is why it's telling you the density is 3x higher than SEOPressor (your key phrase is probably 3 words).

I've had much better results with Easy WP SEO, so if I were you, I'd stick with that.

I explain the differences in keyword density in my article comparing onpage SEO plugins.

There are two main ways to calculate keyword phrase density.

A=Total occurrences of the keyword phrase in the article
B=Total number of words in the article
C=Number of words in the keyword phrase

    Keyword density calculation 1 uses:
    (A / B) * 100

    Keyword density calculation 2, uses:
    (A * C / B) * 100

Let’s have a look at an example and the difference in the keyword density score those two formulas can make.

Let’s say we have a article with 1000 words and using keyword phrase of “search engine results page” (4 words) where there are 10 occurrences of that phrase.

So using the first formula, that gives us:

    (10 / 1000) * 100 = 1% keyword density

and using the second formula, gives us:

    (10 * 4 / 1000) * 100 = 4% keyword density

That’s quite a difference depending on which formula you use. (Note: the differences only apply to keyword phrases and not when you use a single keyword).
All the on-page SEO plugins I tested use the first formula apart from BloggerHigh SEO.
With Easy WP SEO you have the option which keyword density calculation to use, where the default is the first formula.

Your going down the wrong road If you think keyword density (stuffing) is SEO.

    Good luck.

just stumbled on this and couldnt agree more, you should be focusing more on giving a better user experience rather than keyword density. Easy wp seo is overkill in the the current google climate

These tools have been bogus from the start.

The only people that recommend any of them either don't know any better or have an affiliate link involved with their answer.

What do you consider bogus? On-page optimization? Or do you see that as being so simple no one should need a plugin for it?

        Just curious.

Keyword density is an important term in SEO, shows the percentage of keywords appear on webpage and keyword density should be 4 to 5 % on a webpage content.

I couldn't disagree more. I don't believe there's any magic range that Google likes, or ideal density. I have pages ranking well with less than 2% density, others doing very well with around 5%, but that's about the highest I'd want to go.

My intent is to create good content that reads well. The density is secondary, but I like to keep it under 5%.

Why do you guys insist on using Over hyped plugins for SEO that cost you money (and in many instances slow down your site)when in fact there are free ones that are better? No plugin by itself should be relied on to do all your SEO and the free ones do just great.

Have you tried whatsmyserp keyword density tool? Besides being free, it breaks down your title, description, meta keywords and h1, h2, and h3 header tags and you can highlight multiple keywords that you are interested in. It also ties in with our serp checker, so you can check keyword density for any of your keywords for the page it is on with a single click from the serp results.

        Just sayin'.
