Squidoo is the issue. They seem to love removing lenses for no apparent reason.

If you're going to use a third party source, check out weebly. They seem to rank pretty well and you have more control over your site / its content.

Agree with this, I also had weebly as my third party source. I also had the same issue with regards in squiddo. This is really disgusting. Even if you are providing quality content, they will still remove your content from their website.

I know quite a bit about Squidoo. I have over 30 featured posts that are not turning red or into "works in progress". The thing is, if you post drops below 400,000 in ranking it will not be featured. So you need to be editing your lenses to make them appear above the 400k mark. Thing like breaking the article into sections with headlines, using the table of contents feature, interlinking your related content, squid likes, Google +'s, pinning on Pinterest, Facebook Liking, Tweeting and all that will help your ranking. All this plus you should make your lenses as close to 100% as possible.

They are not removing lenses for no reason.
They are removing spam lenses. Don't
      create spam.

The trick to squidoo is this. Stop thinking about
spam, and start thinking about making a webpage
      that has useful content.

      Think wikipedia page on steroids.

I have over 100 lenses, level 60+, even
had a lens of the day.

I could do a lens on cake decorating, and
link up to my other websites. I could do
a lens on ANY topic and abuse it to the fullest.

It just has to look like a non-spam lens, following
all rules, adding the right amount of each things
      that they ask for.

They have changed the TOS in recent months
due to panda-monium. Read their blog and
      hq updates.

Try and get each lens to 100% done.

I agree to an extent. But Squidoo is notorious for removing lenses at any time, and for the smallest things.

Weebly gives you the benefit of having more freedom since it's more of a traditional host. Plus it seems to be pretty well trusted by Google, so it's good for "testing" niches if you'd rather not invest money on a domain initially.

I dunno. I have 100+ and never had a problem.

I did forget to mention that if your lens rank
goes below 400,000 or so, they don't promote it
in their results. The lens still exists, and just
freshening it up is probably enough. A simple tweet
          with the url helps.

I guess I have been abusing squidoo to the fullest for a long
time and take full benefit. Being highly ranked, and having highly
ranked lenses, gets you squidoo traffic just by that alone.
Fellow squidoo users surf in, visit and like a bunch of lenses,
          contributing to your value.

If people really knew how to use squidoo, a lot of problems
would be solved. Backlinks and cash. You can't beat that.

In fact, 50% of my time doing what people call "SEO," is
spent on squidoo funneling traffic. Still people just keep
on with blog comments, forum profiles, article sites,
          and other junk.

Visiting other lenses, liking them, leaving comments, is
          the ultimate traffic exchange.

This may be a very simple issue. Do you have any likes on your lenses? If you have no likes and no traffic, your lenses will be sent to WIP.

Sometimes, the reason you have no traffic is because you have no likes (google will check out your lens after other people do).

Sometimes the reason you have no traffic is because you wrote about something that nobody in the world is searching for.

in order to get likes, go to the facebook squidoo community and squidu and submit your lenses there in the appropriate places. Also, visit other people's lenses and like and comment if appropriate.

You need to keep your lens popular, either by editing the contents for latest information or by interlinks it with other lenses or sharing the link on social media sites.

Most of Squidoo Lenses have the "noindex, nofollow" tags wich means is VERY difficult for Squidoo Lenses to be useful anymore..

They are very strict these days about quality and the only good point is that if you manage to avoid "noindex, nofollow" then your Lens will have very high authority.

So think about this before you create a new Squidoo Lens.

I think, they feel that your content have been stolen by someone so, they need to review your content once again

It's all too easy to let your squidoo rankings drop, I've taken my finger off the pulse for a week or so and they've plummeted, I Stumbled them today, seemed to help with a bit of traffic, if you're not bothered about cash from them, just backlinks, then just keep getting them bumped up a bit.

So after reading through this thread I'm amazed at how many of you are still using Squidoo. Do you still find Squidoo a good backlink to have in your link profile?

I guess lens (with rank>400,000) automatically move from featured to "in progress".
I am saying this because i published a lens 2 month ago it was featured( for around one month) but that stupid red flag once its ranking went lower than 400, 000 but last week somehow it got one or two click and again became featured

DONT give up on Squidoo, I recommend making high quality lenses meaning lots and lots of content. They're one of the best web 2.0 properties.

Squidoo, Weebly, Wordpress, Blogger, Wetpaint, Wikia, HubPages - this is how you create a network
