"BMR & the Death of Blog Syndication Networks, A Case Study"

Though this is part of our paid membership, I wanted to make it available on Warrior for those that might benefit.

This is a recording of a presentation I did on 3/20, going over some of the 'what', 'why', and 'how' of private blog networks and the "Build My Rank" shutdown, plus a look at safer, effective post-Panda linkbuilding.

(Warning: the presentation is just under 2 hours.)

    bfas,

Thanks, I was on that call, appreciate the rapid response and really good info. I agree with you in regards to removing all of the BMR links ASAP, but when I'm logged in I don't see an option for this.

Can anyone confirm where / how this is done?

    Cheers,

    Owen

How do I remove my links/posts from the BMR network?

Actually there is a new link to do this on the main portal now - under the link that let's you export your posts.

By the way bfas, thanks for the presentation - will take a look when I've got some time.

Just removing those links may trigger a negative link velocity algorithm , If you can remove those kind of links, do that and continue your link building efforts so it looks natural.

I've seen the arguments for a penalty from de-indexed links, but personally don't believe there's such thing. You would naturally lose ranking if a significant portion of your backlinks was de-indexed, and I've only heard that suggested where the 'cause & effect' inference was pretty loose.

On the other hand, we're now seeing a lot of people getting WMT 'unnatural links' messages where they were using one of these networks that's been de-indexed.

Google already knows about these specific links, and de-indexed links otherwise contribute nothing towards ranking; the 'Reconsideration request' form cites these link schemes.

Our advice has been, remove all that you can, and plead unintentional violation in the request, something to the effect of a 3rd party company or freelancer paid to 'improve the site'.

          Thanks KB,

We put this together for our"$100k Results!" membership the day BMR shut down.

However, with so many people affected, we felt that making the presentation available to the 'general public' was something we should do.

  • Great video Michael.

I few of my colleagues sites have been affected by the de-indexing of BMR. They were notified within Google Webmaster tools about 'un-natural links'.

I'm working with them both to get them back in Google's good books.

I agree with your comment about Guest posts.. It's a strategy that is massively overlooked. And for the main reason is that it's bloody hard work! But any emarketing process thats hard work is usually worth the effort.

And there's no better way to get a contextual backlink from a relevant authority website. Plus it's a link building method that sends human visitors to your site!

I've also recently added my colleagues websites to paid directories such as Yahoo Paid Directory (at a cost of $299) and Best Of The Web (at a cost of $299.95).

I know theres a lot of mixed opinions about these paid directories.. But Mat Cutts has said Google looks at these and encourages people to consider them.. Mainly because like DMOZ they are human edited.

Along with some social media marketing I feel over a short period of time my colleagues sites will be back ranking stronger and better!

Hope this also helps others affected.
