Does that mean using fiverr jobs is wrong in google's eyes too? Are they going to start hunting down people that use gigs there for SEO?

I would love to hear how you connected Fiverr gigs and private networks together... what do the seo gigs have to do with private networks? Just the fact that both are selling seo services?

Yes. From all the talk it sounds like you aren't allowed to pay for links. Well then what are all the SEO services and SEO fiverr gigs there for? Even Yahoo directory is a paid link.

Promoting your business is what business owners do. I guess there is a difference between spamming your link out there and tasteful and balanced promotion, but does google differentiate?

The difference is with paid links on services like the Yahoo directory which I believe is soon closing down anyway is they have an editorial process they don't just give you a link because you paid for it your site has to pass a manual review... There are many directories with this process that Google highly values links from for example BOTW...

There is a huge difference is buying paid links that are automatically accepted and ones that have an editorial process which leads to not every site being included.

Google did not come down on large public blog networks because they are against paid links. Google came after them because they made manipulating search engines far too easy. Has nothing to do with buying links.

The fact is that SEO itself is against what Google calls "natural" site promotion. yet, Matt cutts has a blog and talks about (legit) SEO all the time. The hypocrisy is unbelievable.

BMR was one of (if not THE) largest private blog networks which was specifically designed to game the algorithms of Google.

Google constantly updates its algo to weed out people who are trying to artificially rank their websites through sources like BMR.

The fact that Google has manually deindexed the entire BMR network and put them out of business means that these high PR private blog links work VERY WELL and will continue to do so, otherwise there would have been no need for Google to take this drastic action.

Google is not going to manually deindex every network that anyone of Fiverr is using, it likes to just update its own algorithm where possible.

That said, most fiverr gigs are through push-button spammy software which produces typical link patterns that Google is already all over.
