Sub domain for keywords?

Hi

I want to purchase a number of keyword rich .coms for my service businesses, although all relevant domains are taken.

Would sub domains work as an alternative? for example:

If I wanted to optimise for second hand cars geographically, could I have

London.secondhandcars.com
Manchester.secondhandcars.com
Etc.

Each sub Dom would be a completely separate site, i just want to have my keywords in the domain and this seems the only way possible

    This is something I'm currently trying, but I can't see why this wouldn't work.

    Setup Wordpress Multisite so you only have to install Wordpress and all your themes / plugins once.
