Are your competitors ranking well? I bet they are. Otherwise you wouldn't be asking this question about linking over to a CID page. IMO if you have the resources to pull it off it's a good idea to link back over to your places page from as many different sources as you can.

Try it out on a niche specific mini site hosted on another server. Make sure it's all unique content and then repeat with more. PM me if you want to see an example.

Yes they are. But they are ranking well for the organic results also. So i dont know if they are ranking good on Google places because of the good ranking in the organic results and the amount og reviews they have ??
I didnt know untill know that backlinks to the Google places page have any impact on the ranking. I was sure i suppose to focus only on the backlinks to the website.
And to be honest i didnt really understood from your answer if it does have some impact.

Google places is good for targeting your site to a specific area. If you are selling something to your town then you want to geo-locate yourself, and if you're selling to the whole internet then ignore geo-location.

Focus on getting authoritative links to your homepage. Don't go nuts linking over to your CID page but it's still a good practice to reference that CID page from your site or perhaps a mini site you own.

The Google places listing will get a solid boost if you list your website at all of the 7 directories that GetListed.org recommends.

Have you tried Getlisted yet? It's free.

You shoud focus in getting backlinks to your main site and you also need a good amount of reviews behind your site to get a good position.

Backlinks don't do a thing for google places.

It's all about location and relevance, followed
      by what rankings they glean.

Organic search results for webpages is another
      animal.

Anyone who talks about google places and getting
backlinks is nuts, or has no idea just what google
      places is.

It would totally defeat the purpose of google places.

Not sure if I understand you correctly but in case you mean that backlinks to the own website won't increase the Google Places ranking in the normal search results then you are wrong.

I ranked 2 clients from the bottom of the Google Places search result page all the way to the top.

While doing so they didn't got any extra reviews and their adress/location didnt change either.

With Venice now in place I would optimize my web page for Venice factors over the Places listing.

Getting links to your GP page should have no impact on its ranking. Focus on building backlinks to your actual webpage and getting citations as well as optimizing your GP profile and getting reviews.

You should show up automatically when all is well, you might have to get some reviews first and some citations, once you have that you can build links to your moneysite using the Cityname + keyword as anchor.

Do local listing like local directory submissions and local classified ad submissions with exact address and phone no that u have got in your places page.. Use title exactly as company name that u have used in the google maps listing.. If u follow this, u would get some improvement in your maps listing..

Back links to your main page are the ones to concentrate on. But there are some tricks with Google Local listings which are very helpful. You need to use as much images as you can, name files with your keywords. Just Google the tips and tune you local listing.

Citations, reviews and location are the biggies for GP as well as optimizing the listing itself. We do not build backlinks to GP pages and we do pretty well. Focus on making the site the authority site in their market with links and content.

Backlinking to google places pages won't work as Google has instructed the spiders to not follow the places page. Learn more about robots.txt
