Is competitor domain age an important factor?

I'm fairly new to MNS. In terms of keyword research, I've noticed that many fellow warriors consider competitor PR, backlinks to be big factors in determining how competitive a niche is, but what about the age of the competitor root domain?

For example, if i have a keyword, whose top 10 sites that are currently ranked all have very low PR, but their Root domain are all 7+ yr old, would this be hard to rank? or should i just shoot for niches where the competitor root domain are new?

any advice is suggestion is appreciated!

The competitor age does matter, but it is just one of the many factors. You competitor could have an aged pr site but if they are not optimizing their page for the keywords your targeting you can easily outrank them.

Obviously age does play a factor, it can make a website easier to rank because it's more resilient to aggressive link strategies It can handle more backlinks at once than a a newer website

But if you're good at SEO and develop a good strategy you can beat almost any website... Just do better than them

If you are starting with a brand new domain, regardless of what seo you do, it will take time to out rank a domain of 7 years even with low enough PR.

yes us too, but, that depends also on weather or not they are targeting the same keyword. What i mean is, its highly unlikly you took down a site of 7 years targeting a keyword that you chase with a brand new domain that's 30days or less old. If you did, then the market must not be worth chasing in the first place.

Aged Domain is definitely on of the factor on SEO, but it didn't mean
you can't over-rank your competitor. Aged domain is just one of the
factor, there's plenty other. As for starter you can optimize your
    ON-page SEO.

    Best luck

I look at such things as myths now days.
I used to believe that when i first started out.
My advise is just do your thing. Have good content, unique at that
Relevant to your topic and site or whatever you deem relevant and quality.
Work your site and check it.

It will even out rank google and facebook for its term.
I have not our ranked those two but you get the idea. I have done it before and so can anyone..
Though i have got better results with a site 6 months + the one month sites may or maynot dance too much depending on the competition.
My view raegrex is just do your best.

Nothing is impossible with IM..(Jox nothing is impossible with God )

thanks for the info guys. A lot of good keywords I have found had very old domains ranked in the top 10, which was why i stayed away from them, (the URL that's actually ranked in top 10 is not old). But I realized that these pages are not optimized for the actual keyword, so i'm going to give it a try and see if i can out rank these guys. I'll report back and let u guys know how it goes if anyone's interested

Domain age is just one of the On-Page SEO factor. In my experience it plays a fairly small role in determining the overall success, both of your own site and of the competitors. The same goes for Page Rank. Great content and a great Link Strategy with some On-Page SEO will get your site ranked quickly.

Domain Age is not a big factor at all. And if your site is 1 year old it is equal to the 7 year old site. At six months it is almost there. Also in the first two weeks your new site gets a boost and this boost mellows out for two months. Going less and less. After two months there is no longer any boost. Wait another four months and your site is already 6 months old and getting a boost because of that. Another 6 months and your site is equal.
