I have a site that I have got ranked on the second page of google for it's keyword when I search the site in quotes it comes up with around 1080 indexed pages but then the next day I will check and my site will only show say 470 indexed pages and the site will be no where in top 100, and then later that day or the next the indexed pages will right back up and the site is ranked accordingly? The site is appx. 5 months old, is this normal? I keep a close eye on top sites and they never seem to move positions.

    Until your site gains authority in the search engines, every page you add will usually bounce around for a few days before Google and the other search engines decide where to place you. In answer to your question, yeah, it's normal. Just keep doing quit. Keep going. Things will level off before you know it.

    why would the indexed pages change so drastically from one day to the next and then back up again?
