reasons why Adsense RPM (CPM) would increase by itself?

So I've used Adsense for quite a while and for the most part my RPM (formally known as eCPM) has gone from approximately $0.50 (for over a year) to $0.80 consistently in the last couple of weeks.

Does anyone know the possible reasoning behind this? Are advertisers just spending more on their Adwords bids to get their ads on my site?

It's possible that the latest updates effected their rankings causing them to spend more on paid advertising

This happened to me too, if you add new content Google will crawl it and might serve up better targeted ads, which increases CTR and usually RPM as well.

When you talk about targeted ads, are you talking about ads based off of a site's content or from a user's recent browsing history? (eg. if I visited Nike recently I would get Nike ads on the site)
