JCPenny gets slapped by google for blackhat seo...lol

Apparently JCPenny hired a very good seo company and JCPenny started getting 1st place ranking on thousands of keywords on the top search engines...

Google saw this of course and punished JCPenny listings...

Yes it is. What the hell do you think "old" means? It doesn't mean "stuff you already know."

Old - something with age, e.g.: A baby is 1 day old.
stuff you already know - I don't have a definition of "stuff you already know" only you know what you know.

I remember reading about this last year and thinking that Google can get to anyone they want and do just about anything they want. It actually sort of scared me for a second there. I got over it pretty quickly though.

He didn't say it was still news. He said it was not old. These are, oddly enough, not the same thing.

Of course nobody is immune to Google's b**** slap. Why would they be? JC Penney should have been smarter about what company they used to do their SEO. It is amazing how companies hire people to do SEO for them and don't have a clue about what they are doing or what they should be paying for. Some companies out where I live have paid hundreds of dollars a month because some SEO guy wanted to rank them for a keyword that got 0 search results a month. When they ranked on the front page they treated the guy (or in one case woman) like a god.

I understand they don't know IM. But isn't one of the first rule of any business to do your research and know what you are buying regardless? If I was hiring an accountant to look after my IM reveneues I wouldn't take everything the guy said at face value and make sure I knew what I was getting and what it was worth. Sheesh.

Lol wow thats right, blast from the past. They continued with that advertising for years with the CDs, which were pretty expensive at that time.

Cor this thread made me laugh. It probably shouldn't have, but it's been one of those days.

As for the old/news definitions above - that story is over a year old. So that would make it old by your standards, but also news because you don't know it...so "old news", then?

No, just someone sniffing bicycle seats again.

Man you people gotta check the calendar and some facts.

JCP was not penalized. Read that twice if you must. They
were not penalized. They returned to where they naturally
would be. That's not a penalty. Besides, google had no idea
what JCP was up to until someone blabbed. They had no choice
but to put them back where they belonged and devalue the
      links.

That aint news and it sure is old.

Now please check your calendars. This is March. 2012.

What do you call it then if it wasn't a penalty.

They WERE penalized for 90 days in much the same way the Google's own Chrome page was recently penalized for exactly 60 days.

Are you still saying penalties don't exist?

I dont think you can call it a penalty when they put you back where you were without these links.

Personally I see sandboxing or getting deindexed as a penalty.
