Blog comment resulting in thousands of links

Hey everyone,

I've been reading the forum for awhile, but this is my first post. A few months ago I left a comment on a high pr blog. My site at the time was around page 10 for my search terms, and then last week I checked and I was on page 1. Out of curiosity, I checked my backlink profile on Majestic and discovered that I had over 3,000 links coming from the domain that I had left the blog comment on. This is leading me to believe that this huge number of backlinks is what propelled me to page 1 and I'm worried that they're not going to stick and my rankings will fall soon. I've done little backlinking from the time I posted the comment until now. My questions is, how did that 1 comment lead to so many links? Majestic only showed me 5 of the pages from the domain that link to me, and when I checked it out, I couldn't find my link anywhere except for the original page I posted on. Thanks for the help guys.

I too suspect this is the case. They are sometimes difficult to find on a text-dense page.

Go to one of the links from your webmasters tools and open up the source code of the page of the site linking to yours; in internet explorer or firefox or similar. Do a search (File>Find) for your domain name in the source code. You should find it in a tag <a href="yourdomain.com/page.html" >Some Text</a> The some text being the anchor text you left in your original post.

      I hope that helps.

Thanks for the response Mike. I checked the sidebar on the pages that Majestic referred me to and couldn't find anything. Plus like I said, it was a few months ago that I posted the comment. I guess I'm just worried about the rankings dropping when G decides that they're useless links (assuming those links are the reason I was propelled to page 1.) It's for an offline business and I just recently hired a couple employees because of the good ranking and there is some business flowing in.

Well.. I wouldn't consider those links to be permanent. I would be looking in to building other links to replace those ones. If you have the business to hire some employees, why not also hire someone to build a few links?

Almost certainly from a latest comment feature on the sidebar.

    No worries.
