Rank Tracker issue www or no www

Overtime , rank tracker will pick up my domain that i am optimizing for.

ie: www.golf.com will have a rank of 10 on may 21st

In the same rank tracker it will find golf.com maybe on may 23rd without the www.

This will be on and off and different for every keyword and every domain. it just varies. Can someone tell me why this is?

"www.domain.com" will rank different compared to "domain.com"
google see them as seperate domains (or at least they used to).

Thats probably why your rank tracker shows a different rank between the two.

I understand this. Im thinking that if there are different responses to rank tracker than the web page is not set up properly.

I make certain to consistently optimize and link with the full url that includes the www

If you're always linking with the www, and your site defaults with the www, then you should be fine. It's possible that maybe some natural link building has brought about the rankings that are excluding the www.

I understand if hte backlinks are mixed between www and non www, but the Link that is being found in the rank tracker will sometimes be www and sometimes non www.

There should only be one version in the index. Your site is not set up to redirect the one you do not want to use.

ok. Thanks. what type of redirect do you recommend?

      Also,

ie: if i were to type in www . dog . comand dog.com typically aren't they supposed to redirect to one or the other

so www.dog. com goes to www.Dog.com

      and dog.com goes to www.dog.com

as well as the further urls like www.dog/dogbones.html
(these will be the same as the main domain url that we have set up correct? meaning if the main domain has www than these further urls will have www as well.???)

      Thanks a ton.

Just Google how to do a non-www to www redirect. You'll find your answer there.

As for the dog site, from what I see, everything is redirected to the www version, the way it should be.

the real domain isnt dog. that was just a generic example. sorry about that. This structure is for many of my important sites.
