I was just wondering if someone could help me out with this simple question. What exactly determines how much money you will make per time each ad is clicked on? I have noticed that mine tend to vary a lot, so I was just wondering what are the different factors that affect this.

Thanks.

CPC is based for that EXACT keyword. If you have 3 adsense ad boxes you will be showing anywhere from 3-12 different ads targeting different keywords.

You will never know which one of those did the visitor click, so dont worry too much about it. After a significant amount of visits you will see an average number which you could incorporate in future calculations.

I have had 0.01$ clicks as well as 13$ clicks on the same page, so go figure.

Your site has many keywords and eventhough it may be focused on 1-3, there is no saying that there are 12 ads covering those exact phrases.

    Hope this helped.

    Sincerely, Buyseech

You can't know the amount you'll get when someone clicks an ad on your site. It's a moving target.

Understand what the advertiser has to pay. The Adwords system rewards them for having higher quality ads than their competitors. Higher quality is higher click rate. So a higher quality combined with their bid determines their ranking. Someone bidding lower can get to the top simply because of higher quality.

Then, what they pay depends on that quality as well as the quality and bid of the ad below them. That's another moving target since advertisers come and go and can change their bids. Once that price figured out, you as a publisher get I believe 68% is the figure Google published.

Your page will also not always display ads related to its theme. There are many variables there, some you can control and others you can't as they are under the advertiser's control. There's also ad inventory to consider at the time ads are displayed.

So, ever changing quality each time an ad is displayed, new advertisers coming in, others leaving, bid changes, available ads. The system is in constant flux. You can't pinpoint a specific amount you will get every time.
