Can mass directory submission harm a site?

Hi,
I know Google does not like sudden increases in backlink numbers because it's unnatural (though I also know there are some arguments about this). Mass submission of article sites, profile links, could harm your site etc.

But how about directory submissions? I heard/read directory submission is OK even if it is large numbers of submissions because it is in a way natural (It can be normal web promotion). Is that true? Have you used (mass:200-1000) directory submission and did it help? Has it ever harmed anyone's site?

I think 50 to 100 directories submissions are enough for a day and i will say directories submissions is not a very fast way to get backlinks rather than others.

Sometime too much can be bad. You have known from the start that Google doesnt like unnatural beyond your site. When he see's your site eating too much links he would go there and check on you and your on red flag.

That is an excellent choice avoiding spam with directory submission. Regardless of spam you can do this manually making sure that you are posting with relevant details/categories.

Look! This will NOT harm your website... But you are losing potentional good backlinks. Because if you do mass directory submission, you will submit your website with the same title and description in EVERY directory... This will create a backlink, but will NOT help you to get a better ranking. I would advice you to do 15-20 per day with UNIQUE title and description (this will help you rank for many more keywords, not only for 1,2...)

Directory submissions help you build good backlinks if done properly. Submit your sites to good directories manually or use a manual directory submission service and spread the submissions over a period of time. All good directories will have a human editor, so it will take some time for them to review the sites and approve/reject the links, thus you will only have a gradual increase of backlinks, not a sudden jump.
