How to choose domain name??

Hey!

I am creating an information product on a smaller niche and I'm interested to also create a blog and rank it for the niche specific keyword(s).

I'm stuck on choosing a domain at the moment. There's only 2 or 3 main keywords which 2 of them has extremely high competition, but one of them has kind of low competition and still decent search volume (5,000 + exact).

My problem is that all TLD's of EMD have been taken (though none of them are on the 1st page of google).

I was wondering that how does it affect if I use suffixes on the domain name? Or if should I just add one random letter to the end of the domain? Or how should I choose it?

My goal is not to brand myself or anything like that, but this would just be a longer term form of getting passive traffic to my product.

I wouldn't get too hung up on EMD's. The can help, but not as much as they once did, IMO. I'd rather go for a niche-related domain name and target specific keywords on the inner pages.

Since you're creating a product, why not give it a title and make that your domain? Then target the keywords on your pages / posts?

I was thinking about using the product title domain only for the product and pages related to it (upsell, squeeze etc.) and creating a blog on a different domain.

Would it be better to put both on the same domain? If so, why?

Umm this didn't really help me as my question was about what to do when the EMD is taken for all TLD's...

I've noticed that when the TLDs all are taken, certain guys (very experienced ones) they suffix the letter x,v etc to the main keyword and register the domain name (.coms). I think this could help in your case.

Scratch your head for 2 minutes and think a name, then go to godaddy.com and register it.

If you can't get the domain name you want, the domain name registrar will suggest alternate forms of the name you typed. For example, if you wanted website.com, and it was taken (of course it is), it might suggest forms like: thewebsite.com
    mywebsite.com
    websites.com

If you take the "the..." and "my..." forms of the domain name, you must always remember to promote your site with the full form of the name.
Good luck to have best results!

Go to namecheap.com and type in the domains you'd like to have. If they are taken, it will be marked X but to the right will be a list of (fairly decent, in my estimation) alternatives you may want to consider. If nothing else, those recommendations could get you to brainstorm a very good domain name.

^This. Just add one letter at the end or in the beginning. That's almost nearly as good as an EMD.

If the EMD is taken, why not hyphenate it if it's an available .com? Google doesn't mind hyphens if you don't mind the cosmetics...
